Front Brake Caliper Bolt On Piece
Hey
Does anyone know what the 2 bolt on piece at each end of the front calipers is for? This looks very different from the typical Brembo OEM calipers i.e. Porsche or similar and looks out of place (if I could say ugly). Does it have some function? Thanks |

Yep, I posted that other thread about a month ago. The Sedona Red 135i in all of the brochures shows the same front caliper, except they do not have those ears bolted on them. :iono:

The OP question has yet to be answered. Aren't there any tech's that can answer this? Maybe Dan can pass this on to the tech's at his dealership. If memory serves me those pieces are also on the BMW Performance BBK.

I am interested too. If they are not required, you could save a pound or so on each wheel in unsprung weight.

Talk about a thread revival from 8 years back......LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyways, those 2 pieces on the ends of the front caliper are weights for harmonic balancing of the caliper. If you remove them they will cause vibration in the front of the suspension due to the caliper being unbalanced. I found this out 2 ways. It was informed to me by a BMW tech and I also tried it myself. Never doing that again.

The caliper is unbalanced? Is this a design flaw? I've never seen these on other Brembos. Is this to say that other Brembo calipers are balanced?

on some models this caliper has similar balancers, like on this 135 calipers. i think it needs only on some specific configurations, where caliper can make resonance. i've fitted this bmw 135 brembo caliper on 365mm rotor (another car), and all works excellent without this balancing. |

It was a humming vibration that when you apply the brakes you will feel that vibration transfer to the steering wheel. Feels like the front wheels are riding rough.
