Doncaster BMW launch
Nipped over to Montsalvat in the morning today for the BMW 1-series launch event that Doncaster BMW were hosting. I had forgotten how picturesque that area of Melbourne really is. There were plenty of BMWs around the place ranging from the 118 hatchback and the Mini Clubman to a Z4M and couple of M6s. A few pictures follow (Kris and Cozza look away!).
In the smallish lobby of the histroical building, and against a backdrop of weatherbeaten wooden floors old stone walls, they had a black 135i with some performance parts attached - marred only by go-faster stripes - and a 125i convertible in cahsmere silver. On the grounds outside was a sedona red and what I think was a lemans blue. The introduction was nothing dramatic, just a speech about the 1 series that was ultimately rather unprofessional. The surroundings were the main draw for the event for me and the juxtaposition of the 135i against that historic ambience and undulating terrain really leaves me with a feeling of fate about this car for me. I did not partake in the test rides they were offering. I am saving that first rush for my own car that still exists as nothing but a piece of paper slowly moving up some build-order inbox halfway across the world in Leipzig. |

Was tempted to swing past this, but lacked the time.
Love to see any photos you had had of the black 135 with the go fast bits?

Cheers prof!
I've ordered a carbon fibre spoiler to go on the jet black 135 I've ordered, but I'm just a bit concerned the carbon fibre black will look funny on the black boot.

thanks guys. the cf completely melts into the black color from afar. only when you get closer can you see the detail. so i'd say that for best contrast select cf on white or red and for subtlety cf on black.

Great pix professor..
We have a Sedona Red 125i in our garage where we live and I must say I personally dont like the colour. I found it very bland in the basic 125i.. Needed the M sport pack to give it a bit of pizzaz.. |

Hmmm, Professor, you must have been at the morning session cause I think I can see myself in one of your photos.....
I went for a "test ride" in the Le Mans Blue 135i. Supposedly pre-sold, and was fairly basic (just Sunroof and Metallic). The techie driving certainly was having some fun, and has now made me SERIOUSLY consider the need to upgrade. On the drive back home I tried a few times to get the same acceleration......no luck |

Prof, looks like a great launch! I was going to go but my baby was sleeping and I didn't want to wake him up. He had a rough night and didn't get enough sleep.

joe, i agree that sedona red looks like an overcooked brick-red. i think its photogenic though even if it is an acquired taste.
aussieracer, i was so tempted to shout out for an on-the-spot 1addicts roll call but my reservations got the better of me. wayne, i hope the boy is doing better now. i sympathise with you, i have twins and i don't think my wife and i slept for four months after they were born. |

As far as BMW launches go, it was fairly low-key, which I suppose is what happens when you take things outside a dealership and in reality are just launching two new shapes of an existing model. By comparison the Fascination 3 day at Sandown was much more exciting. What did surprise me is really how quiet the 135i was. Inside at cruising speeds I'd say it was even quieter than my current 120i, and when pushed it was certainly nothing like my favourite std BMW exhaust - the E46 330Ci. But to be honest I didn't mind that, I just thought for what - even the BMW product manager there claimed - is a hero car, the exhaust was was muted. |

In Black Saphire metalic the 135i looks awsome IMO, but then again I am biased.
Drove the vert in BSM over the weekend for an extended test drive and all I got was looks..It was the biggest head turner on the road. Considering on some previous posts there has been talk that it loses its sharp lines in black or darker colours. IMO opinion it is an absolute show stopper in BSM with all its sharpness and body lines actually more prominent and not lost.. |

The photo below is from a camera with a flash, but hopefully it indicates how dark it was: My colour choice would be Le Mans Blue and BSM. |

Yeah it doesnt look like chrome shadowline in that pic. I am trying to get the stock shadowline replaced with the chrome as I think it looks classier and outlines the car better.
