For those in Canada. What are you going to do with snow on the ground?

Hi Guys,

Most of us who have deposits down in Canada are getting the 1er in early to late April.. now my question is mainly for those who have the sports package who are getting the run flat summer tires.. This year has been a winter crazy year and it seems to me that snow will be coming down till maybe mid May.. now what are you going to do. Buy winters and slap them on.. drive using those summer tires (very dangerous) or you have a second car and you'll just store your 1er till the weather is good.

(Note the 128's I think come with all seasons)

Full winter tires on my Mini while my 1 stays nice and warm in the garage. But I don't need to worry about that for more than a few days a year and not until January.

there's no "have an accident" option

I currently drive a front wheel drive, i had no need for winter tires with traction/stability control

i just talked to my friend, he's had bmws for a while, and he said that doesnt help with rwd cars...

i'll have to find out...

300 hp/torque won't help either...

i just hate the idea of having to switch out tyres...

oh well, it was good knowing you guys haha i will kill myself in that car

Winter tires are a must for any sane person.

I know a guy that drives his Audi R8 in winter. If you can do it with a $150,000 super car, you can do it with a $40,000 entry level luxury coupe.

I winter drove both of my S2000's and they don't have any sort of traction control. You use your right foot to control wheel spin.

Snows but not steelies....
I'll buy some nice aftermarket wheels & rubber for summer & use the OE wheels with snows.

I didn't like swapping tires until I ditched my first BMW.

RWD is a lot of fun in winter and on snow if you have a good set of winter tires. It goes beyond just safety.

Indeed. When the price difference between steelies and cheap alloy wheels is only $100-200 total, why the hell would anyone put steelies on a decent car?

I saw an Audi TT with steelies yesterday and I almost puked in my mouth a little bit.

We have steel wheels on my girlfriend's Yaris, but hell, it came with steel wheels from the factory anyway. (not to mention shes not into cars and doesn't even know what the difference is).

I had "all seasons" RFTs on my 2.5i Z4, but they were an absolute disaster in the snow. There was no traction with anything above a light dusting.
I'm gonna assume the "all season" RFTs on the 128i ragtop are no better in the snow. I haven't decided whether I'll park the 128i during bad weather (as I did with the Z4) or if I'll spring for the snowtires.:iono:
I'm thinking that I may want to take this puppy to Florida during the winters, so that may force me into buying a set of snowshoes for her....

The issue is that all season tires have a rubber compound that gets really hard at anything below about -10 (depending on the specific tire of course). Summer tires are even worse-- +4 to +6 is usually about where they become completely hard.

Did you know there are no winter tires available for this exact size at the moment?

Tirerack has the 135 as only fitting 17"+ which makes sense with 13.3" rotors and freaking huge calipers!

I will go 17"
