$3,600 for the 128i Premium Pack!

Also, anyone else thinking that the "Glacier Aluminum" trim isn't the same as the Brushed Aluminum trim that's available in other markets?

I will be very disappointed if we get the smooth glossy aluminum trim.

Glacier Aluminum has a mesh/carbon fiber pattern on it

anybody take a look at footnote number 1?
"1 - BMW AG test results. Actual acceleration results may vary depending on specification of vehicle; road and environmental conditions; testing procedures and driving style. These results should be used for comparison only, and verification should not be attempted on public roads. BMW urges you to obey all posted speed limits and to please wear your safety belt at all times. "
like i'm going to listen to that!!

What exactly is 'Rear-mounted bike rack prep' (128i option) and why is it not available on the 135i?

ZPP for the 128 is $300 more than for the 135. Only difference seems to be the addition of wood trim. Hopefully adding ZPP to the 128 will not require the selection of wood trim rather than aluminum.

Charging for wood trim seems to be contradictory to BMW policy for their other models, as well as the 1 series order guide posted on this forum.

Hilarious, the 128i sport package without the m-sport steering wheel is $1200, while the 135i sport package with the m-sport wheel and higher speed limiter is $1000.

Except you also get the upgraded suspension and performance tires with the Sport Pack on the 128i...

Why the hell are you stuck with that ugly shadowline trim if you want the sport pack?

You know what, in the economic environment today, cars have to deliver value because of all the good competition that did not exist 5 years ago....and the 1 series just isn't doing it. I'm coming up on 38K for a 128i, and that's without the premium package or automatic transmission, or else it would be 43K...and still no Brembo brakes. I'm going to have to say no to this one. The options restrictions are ridiculious as well, I'm not gonna pay $3600 for a premium package just because I want ambient lighting.

I can find much better value in a Altima Coupe, Accord coupe, R32, Dodge Challenger, and other cars...dare I say an IS350. There's just too many viable alternatives to have to pay 40ish for a decently equipped 128i.

What's a convertible gonna cost?
I'm gonna have a lot more fun in a Dodge Challenger, and its roomy enough to travel in, or put adults in the back.

...So there's actually something "sport" to the sport package for the 128 vs the 135...

my guess is that the M-body kit means that you cant get a tow hitch on the 135i.

grey poplar is standard on the 135 but not 128... i HOPE its the same aluminum...

In America, I think the top 10% of income level contributes to majority of the shopping power. Value isn't that high on the list for the 10%. It matters but people who are willing to spend 40-50k on a car is buying the car out of emotion or perception, not practicality. There are tons of good value and practical cars as you have listed. BMW isn't a practical car. You can buy an EVO or STI for 1/2 price of new M3 while retaining 80-85% of the thrill.

The options are pricey I admit but I think a lot of people are missing the fine print. The 3300 dollar PP on the 135i includes leather (1450), power seats (995), BMW assist with bluetooth (750), so you are left with 105 dollars for the dimming mirror and ambient light. If you don't need the leather powered seats and bmw assist then yea 3300 is absurd for lights and mirror. A lot of people are going down the option list and summing individual items when a lot of these items are already included in existing packages. The options aren't mutually exclusive.

I couldn't agree more - I'm buying this car because it's what I want, not because I could find more value in an Accord or a Dodge Challenger.

This car appeals to me on many levels: nostalgic (I owned a '97 M3 before having kids), aesthetic (it looks great), performance (faster than my old M3 and faster than a Cayman!), etc. So why do people buy Caymans if there're faster vehicles out there for less money? For the reason you point out - because they can.

You want value? Go to Costco like I do and shop in bulk. You want to look good, feel good, and drive what you want because you can? Alll you have to do is pony up like the rest of us.
