just bored. license plate/intercooler

i know most states require us to put license plate on the front as well. i know for the evo, they put their license plate on the side of the bumper due to the front mount intercooler. you guys think this applies to the 1er. cuz i know it will look kinda goofy for a bmw.

also if anyone could photoshop a 1er, with the license plate on the side, that would be pretty interesting.

U.S. license plates look really bad on a sporty front end that doesn't have a "spot" molded into the bumper for the plate (like on a truck or SUV). European plates are much less obnoxious looking.

I got a $60 ticket for no plate on the front of my wifes Cayman this summer. No fix-it ticket.
The fine officer gave me a "warning" for speeding on that stop, so I had no problem with the plate ticket.
$60 per year is worth it to not install the front plate.

I do the same. My SA knows I don't like front plates.

Doesnt the dealer install the plate with screws leaving some unsightly holes before you leave? Is there anyway around this?

I once fixed the holes in a plastic front bumber by buying a couple of plastic snap-in hole filler buttons from Pep Boys and paint them with touch up paint. Looked pretty good.

request that your dealer doesn't even bother to put the plate on. Say you'll do it yourself.

I haven't run a front plate for about 10 years. I've been pulled over 3 time that I can remember. Two "fix-It" tickets and the last $60 one. It doesn't seem like a major risk.
Unless, of course, Mr Officer has it out for you for other reasons.

Well, since that post I've bagged ED, so my angst has proven to be unwarranted (a common issue with me).

european plate

Bavarian Autosport (www.BavAuto.com) sells them, including custom configured ones. I told my SA to leave my front bumper clean. Can't decide whether to use Euro plates to give it some protection and perhaps a more finished look.

Could you get a custom euro plate made that is actually your US license plate number? I havent read all of the laws regarding the license plate display for Ca for example, but maybe you could argue it as a vanity plate?

Some people have done that with MINIs with varying success. You are still apt to get a ticket since the law most likely states something like you must have a valid state supplied license plate or somethign similar.

Problem solved. As a matter of policy my dealer does not install nor drill holes for the front plate.
