Exclamation The BMW 1 Series Coupé is added to the Leipzig product range in Sept.

250.000 BMWs from Leipzig

The BMW Leipzig Plant reached another milestone on 3 July 2007: Plant manger Peter Clausen announced at a press conference that "The first quarter of a million is complete". The anniversary car is an Alpine White 1 Series (three-door) 118d. Starting in September, the product range in Leipzig is extended by a third model. The new BMW 1 Series Coupé will be produced next to the 3 Series Saloon and the 1 Series (three-door). Just like the 1 Series (three-door), the compact and sportive Coupé is solely produced in Leipzig for customers around the world. Currently the plant produced demand-oriented 650 to 700 cars per day. More than 5.200 people are currently employed on the plant premises. They work for BMW, its suppliers and partners. Approximately 2.500 work directly for BMW.

Cool. I wish it's release in USA at the same time as Europe.

Cool! I have one of the first e90's produced out of the Leipzig plant. It has none of the B-pillar rattles or squeaks that plagued the early e90's. It's a nicely put together car...

The plus side to the March release is that it gives BMW 7 months to iron out any bugs.

Zaha Hadid/School of Leipzig

The Leipzig plant is BMW's newest, built in 2002 and designed by Israeli architect Zaha Hadid.
The assembly line conveyor belts take the cars from one building to another cutting through offices. I'd be crankin' my i-Pod if I worked here.

StadtWappen Leipzig..City flag of Leipzig

Leipzig's Kunst Akademie- easily the hottest art school in the world- mostly because of the paintings done by their ex-students (School of Leipzig) like Neo Rauch who teaches there.

Rauch, pictured, and his paintings- depending on size they fetch up to a quarter million dollars.

Dig the vestiges of neo-socialist (GDR) painting style slammed with surrealism.
Weird retro combo but hey, well done and, for lack of anything truly new,
"The current hot look."

Looong NYT article on Leipzig School : http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/08/magazine/08leipzig.html?ex=1294376400&en=9d9fe31340e878a2&e i=5090&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss

I'm no art critic, though I do own art. But I'd be damned if I'd pay $250K for painting of a Panzer tank with human-faced snake under it.

Mike, read the NYT article...I think it was almost the entire Sunday magazine section from last year.
No one can believe the prices of new art right now...stock market/hedge fund gajillionaires have pushed prices of even emerging artists having their 1st show in NYC thru the roof.
The Leipzig painters have a waiting list of people for their paintings. It's a strange time. And it's not art's fault- it's that money, the sheer amount of loot being made, has reached incredible proportions, and the art world is cleaning up on the money traffic.

Luckly my Munich built E90 has also been absent of those issues. What is the production date on yours?

I wonder if there'll be any live plant cams to see them being assembled?
