e92 Alarm Install & Price.. Good Deal?
Hey Guys,
I made an appt to install my alarm on saturday.... They said they can do a complete install and program for $420.... Is that a good price? Also since my vehicle is a 2009, they wont downgrade the software for the alarm to work.... right? |

you dont need an alarm seriously, its a bigger waste of money that its a lease. Spend that 400 on a V1 and then by the time your lease expires you can prob sell it for 300

Alarm isn't necessary because it's extremely hard to steal these cars as it is. Take Rtran's advice and buy a V1. Some of the best money I've ever spent. Then again, you can use the money on mod's too

enza is your car a lease.... because mine is & it seems like im giving them a free alarm after 3 years.... I Might end up canceling it because I don’t feel like its worth $420... and i only kind of want it for the Chirp noise when it locks & Unlocks

a v1 would be so much more legit then an alarm, unless you keep valubles in your car like money, radar detector, aftermarket reciever,or anything of value.
i would go with the v1

got mine online for $250 and installed it myself...... Even if you pay a dealer $100 to activate it, it will still cost you less than what they are quoting you.

That's a really good price for alarm and installation! I paid $530. Make sure you get the right alarm system (there are two types). The "Anti-Theft Alarm System" (PN 6512-040-3658) has less functions than the "BMW Security and Alarm System" (PN 6573-941-6520). You will know if you got the better alarm, because it has amotion sensor (wait awhile after arming the car, then stick your hand in through an open window and wave - it should go off).
DEFINITELY GET THE ALARM! They've done studies, which prove one thing: between an alarmed and un-alarmed car, thieves will break into an un-alarmed car before an alarmed one. Oh, lastly, neither of the alarms have a shock sensor, but there is a nice diy for that, here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45815 Get it! |

I installed the alarm myself ($220?) in both my past 325i and current 335i. Then I bargained with my dealer that I would give them "All 5's" on the survey if they activated the alarm for free during routine scheduled maintenance visits. In both times, the activation was free.

Having said that... if it's a bit used car, no point to get alarm if you dont have one already. If they WANT to steal it, they will, and for joy riders it's not that easy to take without alarm. So yeah, don't waste the money. Besides, that's what insurance is for. PS. here to install alarm and activate is 1250 USD.
