3.64 diff swap anyone?

Just wondering if anyone has done a 3.64 or 3.46 swap on a SMG Z4? Does it work?

No. Previous attempts with the same transmission in the E46 3-series failed because the computer can't adjust to the different rpm levels the new gears create; it's reportedly especially bad at downshifts. You can sarch on E46fanatics for more information.

I think it is the single most significant contribution to human enjoyment since scented oils.

If you can find someone dedicated enough to do the remap then yes. The only one who ever bothered to do this was Dinan, and they gave up after 1 year.

Really? I've been thinking about this mod ever since I got my car. Anyone know how much dealers typically charge for the install?

Depends on how you do it. I had my entire diff swapped for one with the 3.91 gears installed. which is typically $3000+. If you find a shop you trust, you can buy the gears for $700 or so and have your diff rebuilt for another $800 or so - half the price, but you're without your car longer and the shop has to know what they're doing.
