2008 3 Series Coupe USB/ Ipod adaptor

Hi guys Im from BC, Vancouver, I got my bmw in july 08, and I have noticed that some of you say the usb/ipod adaptor should be in the glove compartment?? But for some odd reason my usb/ipod adaptor is in the compartment in the center control console? I just want to verify to see if this is regional difference or is it that mine isnt Ipod adaptor.

YOu actually should have two USB connectors - one in the glove box, and one in the armrest. The one in the glovebox is just for transfering music to the hard drive. The only in the armrest is used for playing digital music. Many of us have flashdrives in the USB slot with MP3 files or the like.

MY2009 have one in the glove box for uploading music if you have iDrive. All years have one in the center console if you have the USB/iPod option.

Only if you have the 2009 Idrive. Rotary Rasp was correct. The USB in the glovebox is for the transfer of files to the hard drive. Since 2008 does not hard drive, that becomes a non-issue.

Ok hmm let me ask again (sorry if i am stupid) so the adaptor in the glovebox is available only to iDrive? and since that the one in the glovebox for 2008 works the same as the one in armrest then theres nothing to lose? And that the only additional benefit for the 2009 glovebox is that it can store music to the harddrive?

The armrest USB port is for playing music. It is part of the 6FL Ipod control package.

The glove compartment USB does not play music and has no use other than moving files to the hard drive.

Not sure about cars in Canada but in the US, the USB in the armrest is a $450? option on all models. It is definitely an option. You get the one in the glovebox ONLY if you have the 2009 idrive. If you ahve the 2008, you won't get the one in the glovebox. This is because the 2008 idrive has a built in hard drive. The USB in the glovebox allows for transferring of music to the hard drive ONLY.
