Not even sure it's out yet.. But I am very curious about the technology...
Car and driver said it works perfectly and can also be disabled via a button. Basically this is a full on manual that rev matches on downshifts for you.. No need to heel and toe with this technology.. Any chance BMW will copy this? |

yeah, I am not sure how it works.. How does it know which gear you are downshifting to? The amount of throttle bip is different whether you are going 5-2 versus like 5-3..
maybe each gate on the shifter has a sensor that tells the ECU what gear you are about to engage? |

Or are you saying this is a regular manual with stick shift, but will blip the throttle when downshifting?

Our cars do it on an upshift when you have cruise going. Try it! If you're rolling in 5th with cruise push the clutch in. The revs will rest where they'll be in 6th. Also works going from 4th to 5th.

3 series does not rev match when in cruise w/ clutch down.
It only holds RPM at where they are when you pressed in the clutch. If it were rev matching: - you would see a slight jump in rpm when engaging a lower gear (before you let the clutch out) - or a slight drop in rpm when engaging a higher gear (before you let the clutch out). -scheherazade |
