USB C wattage fact-checking

Trying to determine the charging capabilities of the usb c ports. The owners manual says “charge current maximum 3 A per port”. Most of us think watts when charging, not amps. USB C runs at 20v, so this means 60 watts? Which would charge 4 MacBook Airs with room to spare? Or, more importantly, fast charge phones....

You need usb pd to charge a computer. I don't think the ports in the car support usb pd. I think it's probably 5v 3a max so 15 watts max

I am happy to report that the type c port actually charges my phone, albeit a little slowly. My previous X1 barely used to hold my charge with the original iPhone cable.

No just went with x line , sport seats and upgraded to 19 inch wheels. I wish I had the option to just add the heated seats and the hk stand-alone. Should be easy to get a type c or wireless charger for $25-50 on Amazon compared to the $500 bmw offering. I need to get a Type a to c converter anyway for charging my juul device

In my Countryman, using CarPlay while wireless charging mostly keeps the phone battery as-is. I was about to pull the trigger on a lighter socket charger but that seemed like a waste in the hope that the X1 would do better wirelessly or in its USB C ports.

Agree 100% on buying a charger from Amazon vs forking out $500

was at the dealer for almost 2 hours yesterday while they figured out why the AR navigation couldn't work on their demo X1. while they were doing that, my iPhone 14 Pro Max(in Otterbox Defender case) sat in the wireless charging pad. When I got there, it had probably 45% power left. When I took it off an hour later, it reached 91%. (not sure if that's fast or slow, since I only charge my iPhones with the small 5W charger to preserve battery life)

Mine seems pretty good and doesn't seem to make the phone get that hot either which is a bonus. I only used it for around 20-30 minutes but when I removed the phone it didn't even feel warm to be honest.

The position of it seems less apt to be in direct line of sunlight too.

speaking of sunlight... while I was testing driving the X1, somehow I always went to the dealer around noon all three times. The sun was almost shining directly on the curved display, making it almost impossible to see what the display was shining. Since this curved display design is used on many new Bimmers, I wonder if there's an aftermarket company that plans to make a small long hood to shield the display from sunlight.... At one point, I couldn't see the speed. Pretty sure I wouldn't be able to use that as an excuse for speeding if I got pulled over.

Spoiled by phones and Apple displays, there is no mention of any adaptive brightness on the display. However the owners manual does state: "Depending on the light conditions, the brightness control may not be clearly visible".

Would be nice if someone came out with a matte anti glare screen protector

When I saw the screen during the test drive I did /am worrying that this will happen more than we assume it would/will.

Perhaps some of the people who already have their X1's could comment on how often this happens to them.

I'd love to, but I'm in the UK and sun is something we hear about but seems to happen in other countries.

I don't really ever had any issue seeing my iDrive screen. So I'm assuming it will be essentially the same with the curved display.
