European X1 power door lock switch for passenger side is optional?(covered by plastic

I watched several YouTube videos showing the 2023 X1 with the power door lock switch on the front passenger side missing.

It's covered by a piece of plastic. Some of the reviewers said that it was optional.... which I guess is fine? I once purchased a Mercedes S-class(W140 S280 short wheel base) with no radio and it was covered by a single DIN-size black plastic cover......(but prewired for a radio and even the speakers were present... just no head unit because it was optional)

However, how does the passenger lock/unlock the front passenger door?

If I remember correctly, my current BMW has no passenger door lock switch either, the only lock/unlock button is located on the center dash below the hazard button. If my passenger has to get out while the engine is still running, I have to push the button and then they double pull the handle to get out. Once my car is shut off all the doors unlock.

come to think of it.... do current BMWs, especially the X1, still have deadlock function on the door locks? (i.e. so thieves can't open the door even if he/she breaks open the window glass)

also, I just noticed that Honolulu as your location. Have you ever shipped your car to the mainland(LA or SF)? If so, how much does it usually cost for the average car/SUV? Next summer, my family plans to spend 3 or 4 months in Oahu. Just wondering if it's worth it to ship our car there. The last time we spent such a long time in Oahu was 10 years ago. We spent almost $3500 on a Hertz rental car(which we had to renew every few weeks) If shipping is only around, say, $2000, for a round trip, it's probably worth it? We are driving from the East Coast to LA on a long roadtrip and parking it at my friend's house in Orange County, then flying to Honolulu.

Thanks!

I think at least for my 4 series it still has deadlock, I know for sure on the trunk it does.

I've never personally shipped a car to/from Hawaii or the mainland, but I know recently my friend got his cheapest quote at around $1,200 each way to PNW/California

$1200 sounds pretty cheap! Would you mind asking your friend what shipping company he got the quote from?

Thanks!

I'll ask when I see him, but I believe it was Matson

It hasn't been this way in a while.

Really? My 2020 4 series is like that. It's one of the things I liked about BMW's, and even older VW's. On another note, the review of the Utah Orange X1 in another thread clearly has the passenger unlock button, so I guess we're getting it, at least on X-Line trim and up

Your profile shows an F3X 4 Series; my F30 has the center button, but BMW moved away from that setup after the F30. I haven't had a G2X 4-Series loaner, but the G20 3-Series has the door locks by the door handle, and the prior X1 and X2 loaners I had also had the door lock there. Look at pix of the X3 and X5 - also by the door handle.

my first experience with a BMW was back in 1996(?). My friend bought a new 318i convertible in red.(European version) Not really sure what i did, but I managed to get myself trapped inside and the door locks wouldn't unlock the car. I ended up climbing out. (the top was down at the time) My friend came back and unlocked it by using his other key.

On my 15 X1 there are a 2-3 options for closing we can choose from. The lock/unlock button is in the center and the passenger double pulls door handle to get out.

Lol when you said a while I thought you meant years so I was confused since my car is only a couple years old. That's the newest BMW I have, my other ones were an e92 and an e90 so that's all I've ever known. Well, and my '86 GLI and '89 GTI had the power locks in the center too.

Ok - but the G20 came out in 2018. 4 years ago is "a while" in my mind. The fact that the 4-Series trails the 3-Series is the reason you still had this in 2020; it was the last holdout.

No biggie, I tend to forget about other cars unless I own them.
