Lane Assist Camera Mount Warranty Voided
I recently acquired a used 2021 5 Series. After a few 100 miles I started getting driver assistance errors, disabled functionality related to the lane assist camera. I took it to a BMW dealer to get it fixed under warranty, and they found that the lane assist camera mounting plastic (which comes glued to the windshield) was broken. They also found some scratch marks on the camera housing. They say this is evidence that the fault is due to bad repair work/tampering and it voids the warranty. They want me to pay over $3k out of pocket for a new windshield.
I found a reputable glass shop that will do it for half the BMW dealer price and took that quote to the dealer I purchased from. The selling dealer offered to pay half that, but said that I should keep pushing with BMW, as they can't prove that the damage wasn't caused by the factory. I have attached some pictures that the BMW service center sent me. Do I have a case to keep pushing BMW to warranty this? Or should I focus my energy on getting the selling dealer to pay more of the local glass shop quote. |

I'd check to see if the car had work done under warranty on the camera/mirror assembly area or if a windshield was replaced at a BMW center. If so, this is there problem, not yours. If not, then it doesn't look good from my seat. Good luck!
