Toyo Proxies R888 opinions?

Anyone have experience with this tire at the track? I noticed a lot of cars running this tire at track days. It seems like it is a love/hate relationship. I would appreciate anyone's input.

I have done 4 track days on them so far...they seem decent...I think my worn pilot sport cups were slightly better..but this is by my butt dyno. I was doing about 1:47 laps at laguna with my pilot sport cups and my SSTT...(according to Harold at HP Autowerks) but I only got 1:49.X with my R888s and NO CHIP TUNING. I think I lost about 2 seconds with the tune..so I am thinking they are about the same gripwise..maybe slightly less than the pilot sport cups. But it is too friggin close to call. They are wearing nicely starting from full tread...an issue that I would have had to contend with if I had the RA1s.

S4, thanks for the information! Good to hear the wear is even.

What size are you running? Do they heat up quickly?

I am on 235/40/18s on all four corners. I need to get wider tires in there..I need to roll my fenders...raise the car a bit..and get more negative camber. They do heat up quickly..or they did for me. I started with 34 cold..and when I got off the track..they were at 44-45 hot..I moved them down to 39-40 hot after each session.

What size do you want to move up to? 245/40/18s or 255/40/18s? I would guess that the 255s would rub on an E92, you may be able to get away with 255s on your E90 without rolling the fenders.

So still no tune for you?
Do you have an ETA?

255/35 is the correct size...255/40 will rub for sure

You are right for 18 inch (I forgot S4 was running 18s), I think 17 inch rims wrapped in 255/40/17 will be ok.

Bubbles, I heard you have a hard time keeping your car on the track with street tires, you think r-comp are going to help? Just kidding but I am also interested in other peoples expriences with r-comp. Anyone using the Nitto NT01's?

I gotta go back to the dealership soon..for one more attempt at the misfire/rough idle issue...if they fix it ..I am going to the new Dinan office near me..already spoke to them about it. I hope to have this resolved by end of year. Crossing fingers.

That is good to know on the R888's.

The Pilot Sport Cups are just a little better than street tires, takes a while to come up to temperature, very short window with max grip, then grip falls off sharply.

May try to the NT01's next!

NT01s rock my world.

I've gone through a few sets of them and average 8-9 days on a set. No shaving, no heat cyclin', nuthin'.

A lap generally gets them ready to rumble.

Nitos work well, as mentioned no heat cycle needed, no shaving, etc. They can be shaved if you want, but I don't think there's much benefit. They wear very evenly and are very fast.

I would run the Nito over the Toyo, they are a bit cheeper and for some reason are actually faster from what I've heard.

No heat cycle required, just mount and run? I may have to lean towards the Nittos.

I have had 2 days and 1000 miles on NT01. It works great so far. On the street, the noise level is not as good as PS2 but bearable to the point that I decide to run NT01 regularly. It looks like I might be able to go 7-8 track days with this tire and couple grand on the street.

Since I only put less than 100miles/week on my car, I might as well keep them on there.

Yesterday I decided to go to the Ralphs in a slight rain with NT01..to my surprise, it wasn't all that bad. Even though I had to take off in 2nd at stop sign but the slide was worth the fun.

Be careful in the rain..

Holy crap, you run them on the street?!?! They hum like a mofo for me, even on track.

I have definitely noticed that they lose some grip after a certain number of heat cycles. I wouldn't run them on the street, but I luuuuuurve them for track use.

R888 = NT01
Same compound

I would save my money, and am going to next season, and get the NT01.
