Colorada front plate law
Can anybody give me advise on how strict CO is on the front plate? I know that technically you are supposed to have a front plate, but I've lived in other states where the same law isn't enforced very strictly.
I don't want to go buy and install a front plate holder if I can avoid it...plus it looks like crap. Thanks for any advice. |

I drove my previous car for 5 years in and around Denver and was never pulled over or given an extra ticket after being pulled over for speeding.
The only tickets I received were when using a street meter parking spot. The meter maids would issue a ticket for not having the front plate even if the meter was not expired. If you park frequently on the street, I would put a front plate on. Those tickets are not cheap - $25-$35. |

I have been driving around without one for over a year now and have never been hassled....EXCEPT when parked. If you do park anywhere downtown, or within 5 miles of downtown, or in Boulder, keep your license plate in your glove compartment and put it on the dash. You will get a parking ticket for it otherwise.

I keep mine on in case some retard decides to back into the front of my car while parked on a street. Doesn't look the best, but I think of it as some sort of bumper protection.

I haven't run a front plate in more than 6 years on any car. I've got 4 cars right now and none have a front plate. Never a ticket.
YMMV, touch wood.

Colorado front plate law
FYI, got a ticket just a few days after posting this question while parked in the parking structure at Denver Int'l Airport. I guess you never know.

Correct. Main issue is when parking. They will ticket you for anything, expired tags, no plate, etc. If you live in Colorado, i'd suggest biting the bullet and just put the front plate on.

Or do like I do and throw it in the dash everytime you park somewhere public (both pay and non-pay lots/spots). It is a hassle though to remember all the time, and may not be worth it for everyone.

I got one ticket while parked up in Cherry Creek.
Another time CHP gave me a warning. He was cruising well below the limit in a line of trucks on the right. I passed him going the limit, but he pulled me over for the tag. I had the tag between the seats and said something like, "the car didn't come with a front mount and I'm going to get it added" so he gave me a verbal warning. Dave |

I was not backed in, just parked normally. I was pretty surprised too.

Just an update that I got pulled over in Lakewood tonight and given a ticket for no front plate. That's right, pulled out of traffic for no other reason than no front plate.
That's 2 tickets in less than 9 months in the Denver area, thus my advice is run the damn front plate. Good luck out there. |

Wow that sucks!!! I get cops driving by me all the time and they never give me issue...however I have gotten 4 parking tickets downtown because of it. I am thinking its about time to put it on...or at least stick it on with some tape while I am at the meter.

The meter maids get extra points for tag tickets. If you're going keep parking downtown then you'll probably want front plates.

to The Denver Guy: I think you also called me right? Anyway, I don't need any 17's so not interested in a trade. Also pretty firm on the price, but make me an offer I can't refuse.
Thanks |

I got pulled over once for no front plate and I got a warning. But get this, I just got a ticket in the springs the other day for my tint being to dark and doing 12 over. Yeah, 12 over. GAY!! I seen on the news that we are not imagining it. They are being more strict and giving more tickets. They say it has nothing to do with trying to increase revenue. They say it is just better enforcement. Yeah right!
