I recently switching from summer to all season tires and while doing so was wondering how much different between these two tires with the sound in the cabin.
I used an app to check the noise level in the cabin, I was driving (X7 M50i) in Comfort mode, 40miles/h and A/C switched off. The difference in the road surface was also contributing to the noice. So I took these reading while on road surface which had the least noise and : Summer tires - RFT : Staggered 22" Continental PremimumContact 6 SSR 275/40-22 315/35-22 Inside cabin : 65.7 dB (average) All Season - RFT : 21" Bridgestone Alenza Sports A/S 285-45-21 Inside cabin : 63 dB (average) I'm interested to know how quiet is your X7, model and tires on your car? I'm thinking X7 40i with non-RFT might be the quietest but results might surprise. Pls post what you don't hear in your car For comparison, when I tested in Sports mode there is an increase in 8dB ., ie 72dB (average). My G20 averages 75dB (Comfort mode & 40miles/h) on the same road

Interesting. I don't notice any noise difference between my stock 22", and my OEM 21" 752 winter set

That's a good point . Depending on how fast the blower runs, noise equally increases. These numbers are with A/c off

I find it the quietest suv I’ve ever driven in. It’s the 40i on 22’s. I personally couldn’t imagine it being any quieter. My Bentley wasn’t even this quiet.

I believe there was a test in a magazine and the X7M50i was the quietest SUV ever tested by them. It was right there with the M760i in ride, comfort and cabin noise.

Interestingly RFT and non-RFT tires difference is not that much

I did similar test this morning:
Road condition: newly paved freeway, wet, no rain Speed: 65-75 Distance: 15 miles Wheels/tires: 22" run flat Car: X7 M50i/Eco A/C: Off Similar to the car magazine result. But doesn't feel like someone claimed " deadly quiet". |

Taken from the passenger seat. HVAC fan was on the 2nd setting. So if the fan was off and no rain, then it would've been a little bit quieter.
Everyone that has been in my x7 states how quiet it is. Even my wife, who normally yells at me to slow down when I'm 5mph below speed limit now asks me why I'm going so slow when I'm 15mpg above speed limit, because it's so quiet and smooth, she thinks I'm going way below speed limit. |

This. I've accelerated to very high speeds while my passenger wasn't looking, blocked their view of the dash, and asked them how fast they think we're going. Every single time, they're blown away by the real speed.

Yeah, we really love the X7. I didn't realize the car landscape would still be crappy now (as opposed to when we bought the X7 back in July) otherwise I would have just went for the M50i instead of the 40i and bought something lesser for the car I'm seeking out actively. I kind of figured X5M or M5's would have better pricing now and that would be my fast car between that and the X7....however, it's not reality right now.

Again. Don't know how you guys think it's so quiet. The x7 is probably the noiseiest vehicle I've ever owned. There is a constant warning that comes from the passenger side that reminds you not to exceed the speed limit. Haven't found a way to disable it. Also when you are enjoying the car too long, all sorts of sounds come from the back seat from all locations. Sometimes it's a high pitch squeak/squeal that tells you to pull over at rest stop and idle the car for a half hour or an hour.
I didn't have this issue years ago in my other cars like this |

Via iDrive: 1. "CAR" 2. "Settings" 3. "General settings" 4. "Speed warning" 5. "Warning at:" 6. Turn the Controller until the desired speed is displayed. The other chime you mention is disabled by: Settings -> General Settings -> Fatigue and Focus alert -> Break recommendations and turn it off
