launching 335i auto
So whenever I launch my auto 335i, i keep the break on and let it loose at about 1700-2k rpms. These stock RFTs are impossible to keep any kind of traction on. Are there any tips someone can give me on launching? like feathering the gas, etc? (dtc button pressed once, btw.)

I have an MT, but... I'v found is easier to launch with the traction control only half way off, rather then disabled.
I'v seen a guy launch this way and pull a 1.8-1.9 60 foot and run 13.4's stock. He was launching at about 2k Not too bad...

I do it with tc all the way off and brake boost, I squeezed out a 13.4 stock with a 2.0 60ft.

I gradually press into it until I know I have traction, then let it loose.

guys,
just want to check with you, when u hold on the brakes and get the rpms up to apprx. 1500-2000rpm, do u go WOT while holding on the brakes ? or just normal? cause i realise that when its not in WOT, i cant get it above 1500. why is that so ? thanks, mark |

^There is something weird about that unless you have taken DTC off. I found out during our track rental that I got the best results when I took DTC off completely and did a burnout. Then I brake boosted at around 2K rpm.

My best launch with the stock run flats in my 4,000 lb E93:
Mods: JB2HR & UR Downpipes. 1. I let the Rear air pressure down to 23psi. 2. DSC Completely off 3. DS mode in manual. 4. short burnout to warm the tires 5. power brake to 2,200 RPM then launch 12.77 et 60' time: 1.77

Keep in mind that surface traction, car performance, etc. affect your ability to launch. So, just because someone is able to lauch at 2000 rpm, does not mean you will be able to if you are on a track that has less surface grip and/or your car is making more power.
If you are breaking traction when you start your run brake boosting, you have two choices. Either lower your rpms when brake boosting or feather the throttle more when you let go of the brake and start your run. I found that lowering my rpms to 1100 worked out well as I could get on the throttle hard and did not brake traction as much as boost was building. Or better yet get some drag radials and increase your traction. |
