Question Drag racing.. ?

Hello.
Newbie here, bought my 1st BMW brand new 7-31-08.
335I coupe with sport package

Love the car, but was expecting a little more at the track yesterday.

I've been a gear-head and tuner/drag-racer all my life.
I'm also a former Vette owner and life-time member of the Vette museum, and still chose this car over a new Vette.

I go to my local 1/4 mile drag-strip yesterday which is Beech Bend raceway in Bowling Green KY.
2,571 miles on the odo

The outside temp range started at 54, peaked at 57 and came back to 54 degrees.

All runs with the Steptronic trans in Drive and DTC turned---"OFF"

Slight headwind..

1st pass:
1.93 60ft
8.65 1/8th @ 81.71 mph
13.46 1/4 @ 102.86 mph
This leaving at 2,200 rpm

Next several passes I try leaving harder.. like 2,300-2,500 and it acts as if the traction control is still on as it kicks in and bogs me down. I get a yellow light flash on the dash under the DTC light, as it kicks in and bogs me down, then it goes out.

Then I tried leaving at 2000 rpm and rolled into it.
2.20 60ft---as I was leaving easy and rolled into it
8.99 1/8 mile---with 81.71 mph which was the same mph as my 1st pass
13.79 1/4 mile---BUT I picked up to 103.22 mph with "no wheel spin"

It was a busy, busy day at the track and had to wait in line forever to make a pass so my play time was limited.

Final run, was just like the 1st pass.. left at about 2,200 rpm
1.92 60ft (picked-up here)
8.66 1/8th @ 81.43
13.48 1/4 @ 102.83 mph.. so the car is near consistent

Questions:
1. STOCK with no program/tuning, is this best I should expect from it?
I was expecting more with the cooler temps. May need a few more miles on it to loosen it up?
2. Vettes had a problem with traction control not truly being turned-off, even though the button was off. Has anyone had this problem before?
3. Which programs or chips are preferred? Which gets the BEST-RESULTS? What kind of gains should I expect from them?

I'm leaning towards Dinan cause of warranty. However, I find $2,000 hard to swallow unless I see a WOW of improvements.

Thanks in advance for feedback and advice or comments.
Ronnie

Why didn't you put it in DS mode? My best time stock was 13.4 @ 103.

Thanks guys.

I wasn't aware of DS mode till while ago.

So...simply pulling the lever to the left puts it in DS mode and that's all right?

This was mentioned earlier by someone... I never imagined it was taking off in second gear. It sure doesn't feel like it.

I suggest shifting first and second at 6300rpms and third at 6600 fourth isn't necessary without mods... Also brake boost to 2k-2.5k rpms then release brake when green comes. Also make sure you hold down dtc for 10 seconds and its fully off.

Thanks.. I determined yesterday that around 2,000 was the best launch point.

Weather and time permitting I'll try it again next Saturday.

Sounds like you didn't turn off the traction control completely. Hold down the DTC button for 5 seconds to turn the traction nanny completely off.

First off, 13.4 is a GREAT time for a stock car.

Second, your traction control wasn't fully off if you saw the yellow light flash. You must hold the DTC button for 5 seconds until the yelllow light comes on permanently.

Buy a PROcede V3 or a JB3 chip and you go to mid 12's instantly if you have good traction.

The car is definitely capable of a 13.2 stock. I did a 13.31 not with my best 60' too. That was in a MT, so an AT could easily do it since they are faster.
