Windscreen Replacement E92

Hi all

Needs some advice, got a stone chip on my windscreen today and under it has cracked (not full way through). Its only 1/4 inch long so no major issue but want to get it sorted.

Not sure if it’s repairable but after googling I've read autoglass etc don’t always do a good job when replacing the windscreen. Has anyone experienced any issues?

I don’t believe mine is front heated but you do have the rain sensor attachment etc, would this cause any issue?

Would autoglass etc give OEM windscreen or one of their own?

Thanks in advance

If its going through your insurance use the main dealer. I would imagine they will use the correct windscreen.

I've used Auto Windscreens and AutoGlass for the last two windscreen replacements an had no problems. I guess it depends on the fitter you get. A good ploy is to be welcoming with plenty of cups of tea and biscuits to make the guy feel he'd like to do a good job for you. Cars were protected with blankets across the bonnet and dashboard are to protect from glass and scratches. Cars were hoovered out and left very clean.

Thanks for the info.

I will take it to the main dealer first but I'm sure they will get Autoglass to do it.

The rain sensor will not be a problem as long as you tell them it has one as the screen is slightly different. It will certainly not be electrically heated as that's not an option.

I had dealer fit windscreen to Z4, they fitted wrong screen, no sun tinting band, how obvious is that. On replacing screen with correct one scratched bodywork which had to be resprayed. New screen leaked and flooded passenger footwell on refitting replacement screen again, car scratched again. All ended well new correct screen fitted no leaks. Had RAC windscreens fit a screen to an E46 job done on drive 1st class job done first time using OEM screen supplied from my dealer.

+1 Paul, and wouldn't the dealer sub-contract the work out anyhow like they often do with cabriolet hoods and leather interiors?

Thanks all

Autoglass tried a repair and made it worse but will replace the windscreen next week.

Apparently due to sensors and sun visor they will get OEM from BMW.

Lets hope they do a good job!

Autoglass did my E46 years ago. Left small hacksaw marks on both the inside A-pillar trim and exterior paintwork.
Was well pissed off as i did not notice until weeks later.

I was probably just unlucky though.

Autoglass didnt hoover mine out! Went out to inspect it after they had gone and found bits of broken glass all over!

They came back out and cleaned it all up but I don't suppose that's really the point, My insurer gave me a choice of who to have, I will probably pick RAC next time I think!
