all-out performance says... stuff the widest tire possible in there. But... I hear black wheels are faster than any other color.

Well you're partially right.

Black wheels are the fastest...ONLY if you put the red time attack ring on it.

You want the 35 offset for the rear on a coupe.

25 offset would stick out a little too much and cause rubbing if you drop.

235/35/18 front
265/30/18 rear

you could run 245's in the front and 275's in the back if you want.

+25 will technically give you more understeer, and will likely rub if you don't roll the fenders.

I'm pretty sure you'll want to run the same wheel size all the way around to zero out the understear. Stuff as large a wheel as you can (255s if your dropped).

You'll want to check this out for front offsets:

same wheel size? are you talking about the wheels or tire?

so 255's would fit in the front with no rubbing? i was planning on going with 235/265. Am i better off 255/255?

I'd do the former. Don't think you want to widen the rear track and induce MORE understeer.

Regarding stagger, I run 255/255 on track and 225/255 on the street. The car tramlines a bit more with the 255/255 setup, so not sure I'd run that on the street.

Hope that helps.

i am a bit more confused......the car will be driven 90% on the street and only 10% on the track/autox events...

i dont want to put a tire on that would compromise or induce and negative effect with my tire choice

stock is 225/255
i was thinking 235/265....using the logic that more tire is better

but i don't want to add more understeer

now i dont know what to do

but keep the info coming.....i asked the question here because i wanted to hear from people that actually drive their car and know whats going on

leftcoastman runs the 255 fronts on a 17" wheel. as do I.

I think this is a world of compromises. If you want to have good looking city wheels, you'll pay a bit of a penalty on the track. If you want good performing track wheels, they'll look goofy on the street.

obviously 235/265 is better than 225/255. But, thats 10mm more front and back. /yawn. I don't think thats far enough away from stock to be very noticable.

If you're just going to have one set of wheels/tires, I'd compromise at 235/255. Reduces understeer a bit...but isn't tramline-city on the streets.

yeah i was thinking that 10mm is not that big of a difference from stock, but i still wanted to know what everyone's opinion is.......

what affect does having wider tires in front have?

I guess you could put it that way...but it's more about the relative offset compared to the front. As you said +32/+35 is more stock like, and +25 rear means the rear track is wider, more grip in the rear = more understeer.

As for the tires I would just go with 235/265 since your car is 90% street driven. It's not too bad from my autox experience, but then I also have H&R sway bars front and rear. I wouldn't go 235/255 since you probably can't tell the difference, and the front will be taller than the rear in overall diameter.

I would run 245 in the front and 255 in the rear for best results.
