Dull Brake Challenge

Evening all

I've had a recent dispute with BMW re cracked alloys - see another thread, but in proving I'm no hooligan in my 06 e90 330d sport auto, it has now done 63k miles without needing front brakes or pads, with the computer saying another 11k miles to go. ( I bought with 6k on as an ex demo).

Anyone done more than 63k miles without front brakes/pads needed?

Lightweight 17k here, and 23 for fronts. Be suprised if its on original pads at 63k.

But he bought it with 6k on so the least it has done is 57k and it can't have had pads in the first 6k?

Anyone getting 57k from a set of pads needs to get a 318.

Ha, I'd think that two, but I do give it plenty beans. The bulk of the miles are motorway.

Hmm... Both front & rear pads need changing at exactly 18.000 miles on my car...
My normal average speed on the highway is around 155 km/h (the interceptors catch those going faster than 160 km/h)...

It's just down to the type of mileage you do. To rack up the miles like you have there must be a lot of motorway journeys - which doesn't tax the brakes at all.

I'm still on the original front pads at 44k miles. The rear pads were changed at around 37k miles.

Love that saying.

You must spend half your life driving up and down the M62 then.

You've got to use the brakes to stop the pads glazing over and keep the discs 'clean' you know.

Thats pretty unbelieveable! Have you had like 7 new clutch plates and a couple of flywheels in that time? (engine braking).

I dont think we have a sensor that knows anything about the actual state of the pads do we? just an estimation based on how much braking and how hard?

edit: Other than the end of wear sensor that makes contact with the disk.

Sensor not shagged at all

10k to go with 76k miles on the clock. Must have been the recent northern meet that triggered it!

This dull thread will expire when my brakes do...
