I used Safelite for my X5 (and will need another one before turning it in) and they did a great job. They also can perform the calibration for the cameras.

Safelite recently came out to replace the windshield in my wife's X3. After the technician arrived, he recommended that we only have this done at the dealership. He said they've been having problems with the sensors and HUD's working properly after replacing newer BMW windshields.

The price difference is astounding. About $700 for safelite aftermarket and $2300 at the dealership. I'm still dealing with my insurance company to get their approval for OEM glass.

cbrownmdr1492 ,

Unfortunately, had to replace windshield on both my now retired '14 F30 & my current '20 M340.

In both cases, I used Safelite, albeit at different shops; they did a great job-- even having to get BMW OEM for my current car.

BTW, my insurance company has a deal with them so it only cost me my deductible -- think that's the case with other companies

Hope that helps!

Windshield Replacement

I had the windshield on my previous G20 330Xi replaced at a dealer in Florida and the total was under $2000. That car had Driving Assistant Professional. So I’m incredulous at the over $3k price.

What sensor are you referring to? There is none that needed to be replaced on the G05 and likely none on the G20.

I used Safelite for my 2017 IS350 and they did a horrible job. I would not use them again.

I was shocked how much the difference is.
Safelight non BMW is $900
Safelight BMW is $1322
3 local dealers are $3500-$3600

My insurance already said just to send him the invoice and they will pay the $1322 for BMW glass, no way they will be paying 3 times that at dealer and I certainly don't want to pay out of pocket $2100

I have the HUD and I used safelite to replace the windshield and calibrate the sensors. I can't tell the difference from the car when I first got it.

That might be included in their $2300 price. I think the windshield by itself is a little under $1900. It's currently on back order from Germany.

My insurance company has safelite handle all of their glass claims; even if safelite isn't doing the installation. They still haven't given me approval for the OEM glass yet. You would think that they would have to approve it considering I had agreed to let safelite do the replacement until their technician arrived and told me I should take it to the dealer!

Paid $1650 on my F30 with the sensor replaced since the shop won't reuse the old one. Once time use only.

Used safelite on my '19 540i. Used oem glass and only had to pay the deductible which was $500. Did a good job with the sensors and such also have HUD. Only thing I would ding them on is the housing for the wiring on the windshield/rear view mirror, they jacked it up and honestly didn't notice because it was facing the window not the driver, about a year later whole plastic housing came down while I was driving, dangling from the wires. Noticed then how scratched up it was and a broken clip. BMW replaced it for free even though it clearly had been tampered with. I will say though whatever they did to make that thing stay up there a year despite the damage props to them, I couldn't even get the damn thing to stay put.

Find an installer whose scope of work and experience includes Tesla Model S and X. If they can do Tesla correctly and calibrate the camera, they'll have no issues with the 3 series.

Another option could be to go through your insurance. Some policies have $100 dollar deductibles for windshield damage.

I live in AZ and can confirm. I’m on my third windshield on my 2020 M340i and lost count on the number on my E30. Thank goodness I have a $0 windshield deductible.

Safelight replaced the windshield on my precious lease. They not only did a terrible job aligning (interior trim was off) but they also left several cuts in my steering wheel which they refused to admit was their doing.

The car at the time had less than 1200 miles on it, and I grip that part of the wheel regularly while driving. It wasn't there when I dropped it off.

Needless to say, I refuse to do business with them again. Very much YMMV though.

I had Safelight come out last weekend and I can report I am happy. The tech seemed very knowledgeable and said he does BMW/MBZ, etc all the time since he is based in West LA/Bev Hills area. All in with BMW logo windshield it was $1310
