Trunk stuck closed - F22 coupe

Hi all,

I know that this subject has been covered a few times but the boot (trunk) lid, as we call it here in Australia, will not open. I have managed to get the rear seats folded down so I could get my bags out, but I cannot get the lid itself to open.

My car does not have the manual release pull cable... Seems BMW decided it was not required for the Australian market...

The switch above the hood release does not work, nor does bouncing the lid up and down while hitting any of the release buttons. I can hear the mechanism trying to work (Sounds like there are some teeth or a cog that is moving, but just making a constant clicking sound), but I am guessing there has been an internal failure of some kind.

I am going to order a replacement mechanism, but replacing it will be a little difficult if I cannot actually open the thing.

Any ideas?
