How to optimize your 0-60 run?
I'm not sure if i'm doing it right but everytime I race my buddy who has the 2007 is350 I always lose. My first time against him I didn't have the DTC on and my second time racing him I held the DTC button for 5 seconds but I overrevved my launch so I kinda fishtailed a bit...I lost about 1-2 car lengths even with the fishtailing and my dad put regular gas in my car while I was away at school but he knows now not to put regular anymore.. I forgave him..so anyways any racing tips would be appreciated..I'm pretty confident I'll get him next time though.

As long as you guys keep it on the track, drag race your heart out.
Doing it on the streets is just ridiculous.

That probably your problem. You are either shifting poorly or not fast enough. I've only driven a stick twice, so I can't give you any pointers.

turn off DTC and rev to about 4000rpm or so, then slowly dump the clutch and slam the gas while more rapidly releasing the clutch. it will tear up your clutch if you do it often, but its essentially the same as double clutching. the idea is to keep the tach in the range where there maximum torque is developed, which results in the greatest possible amount of power turning the wheels. also, if you let the clutch out too slowly, it will heat up quickly and lose its "tackiness," and it will start to slip (and it smells like crap, too). Hope that helps

don't drop the clutch, i.e. launch too hard....hold at about 2-3k and you should be fine.
p.s. try hitting the DTC button just once, acts as an electronic LSD...since we don't have a physical LSD.... You should walk the IS..... |

^with DTC/DSC off you're going to get alot of wheel spin and unless you're an experienced driver, you'll create a plume of smoke before moving a foot....

Especially with a manual. Just let the electronics do it for you.. plenty of grunt to dust a NA 6cyl.

that's where learning to drive your car is important. You can keep it on, but I can feel the power transfer between the engine/cluth/wheels better that way, and feel like I can keep on the verge of spin out better. This goes back to feathering the clutch...you have to get a feel for where you need to keep the clutch to keep from burning out, but still transfer the max amount of power.
Do you have sport package or aftermarket wheels? I have sport and the wider tires create a world of difference when trying to put power to the road effectively. |

I just saw you had a 335i. you should be able to get plenty of power with the DTC on. I have a 325i and need every advantage I can get to keep up with you punks...a 335 is definitely in my future!
And for the lexus: http://www.dragtimes.com/2006-Lexus-...phs-11268.html As you can see the BMW is more consistent. Also, if you start at about 4g's and dump the clutch from there, you back up into a portion of the curve that is torquier. If I had to guess, it corresponds with the maximum compression of air into the cylinders from both turbos. Good luck! |
