buttonwillow in Oct pics

On Saturday, we ran clockwise without Star Mazda. On Sunday, we ran CCW minus Star Mazda.

Honestly, I don't think I learned that much this weekend. But, I sure had fun.

In reference to this post: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...4&postcount=89

it is clear that the Godzilla, being heavier, is slower than the 335.

Sorry for bringing up old thread. You may now return to your current thread, already in progress.

I assure you, that GTR was behind me for a sec, I pointed him, and never saw him again. We were both in HPDE 1 together. I think he got bumped to 3 or 4. I don't really know. I think his day wasn't eventful. (which is good)

These are pics of a different car and different driver. Somehow he was in the "wild" group leading us up the South grade one chilly morning. Somehow, I was immediately behind him. All those 2nd gear switch backs, I was on his ace the whole way. Well, except when he had room to get to 3rd gear. It was all driver. Later in the day, he got more comfortable with the car and started kicking ace.

they call the bypass to start mazda "the sweeper". Going clockwise, getting into it is cake. Any number of ways in would work. I don't know what is fast because my instructor didn't really know too well either. Getting out of it... you gotta really late apex it. When you do that, hopefully your left side wheels will be lined up straight over that flat first candy cane so you can get started with the esses.

Going CCW was kinda different. Off the front straight, right turn thru the 90deg "11" aka "sunset" and down that straight, into 4th then into the esses. The esses get tighter and its fast. Brake straight line and enter the sweeper very straight. Catch your breath in the sweeper, track out, eyes out to magic mtn, throttle steer a bit then hopefully you timed it right to no lift up until the hill.

325racer says the BMWCCA won't run button counter clockwise anymore because of how many peeps wad up their cars entering the front straight. Happened a few times on sunday where a car gets banged up early apexing "1" aka "sunrise", tracks out with 2 lefts off, tries to save it, it snaps to the right, hello pit wall and tow truck.

my weekend just past was perfect weather. A bit windy but... it's button. The snowflake beeped on the way to the track in the morning. But, once the sun was out, 70s, no clouds, very very comfy. No sweating, shorts and t all weekend. Button in Oct is a different animal than button in July.

Yeah, the mornings where great. Temp stayed below 250 driving it hard ,until after lunch. I also signed up for both days, didn't learn much but did have fun. BMW CCA days just feel safer and more organized as usual. Godzilla smoked by very easily, for such a heavy car, it does look impressive.

Sunday though, too nice of the day, slept in and hung out with the family. Thanks Satakal for trying to wake me up...

very cool man - I am getting more and more tempted to take the car to the track......I am just afraid of the addiction - 1 trackday on my bike led to years of motorcycle racing and 10's of thousands of $$$.

funny story. When we did our "caravan" in july, the mopar's brakes were smoking really bad when we got to the bottom of the east grade. This most recent one, the rookie v8 S4 had smokin' brakes. I think it was all driver skill with the audi's issues. But, with the mopar, it's just a heavy car that has to work really hard to hang with the porsches and Ms. Oh, also, the mopar had like 100 lbs of tools and stuff in the trunk if anything should happen. He was running as a "support vehicle". Very good of him.

There were 2 SRT8s. They both hold their own straight line. Just like the M5s. But, in the turns it's driver, not car that gets up/down the hill quickly.

If you want more pics...

if the mods see this turning too "street racing", I don't want to get in trouble.

Problem with a bike is that every story of pushing to hard or mechanical, or mistake usually ends with, "then I crashed Really HARD and broke my (insert body part here)!"

I've thought about it, but that last sentence always deters me.

Remember that GTR? Looks like he took video. Anyone recognize the guy at minute 6?

Man, that montego 335 was kinda offline. Wonder why? It's real quick but right at 4:35 I think we have an answer.
