Not in use Airports or big parking lots?

I was talking to some friends and we thought it would be fun if we all got together one day and chipped in to rent an abandone airport out for a couple hours.

Runways, big open perfectly paved areas, and grass outside of that.

Ofcourse we would set it up to meet safety, and make sure we know where the end of the runway is...

Any suggestions?

Really doubting the likelihood of this but i would love to see it happen. And if it DOES happen, it will easily cost $100+ a car with 25+ cars attending. Insurance alone is going to kill it. You cant just say "oh look empty space, lets find the owner and rent it out" or everyone would be doing it and drag strips/road courses wouldn't even be necessary.

FWIW, renting out a small track requires about a $4 million single limit certificate of insurance supplied by those that want to rent. And this is in a controlled environment. If you are really serious, the best way to gauge the cost would probably be to contact a private org that sets up auto x days. Hopefully they can give you a idea of how much it costs to rent out a big parking lot as well as how the insurance and liabilities work.

I hear that, Law. You would probably need to pay to have medical care on site too. My friends have rented out Horse Thief Mile at Willow Springs several times before and it is not cheap. Renting out an airport will be even more.

Renting the parking lot here at Candlestick Park, our local football stadium, is 15K per day.

It was going strong for a while until somethign happened with people doing stupid things outside the racetrack and they got shut down I believe. Not sure how much it costed though. But then again this is norcal
