import to Greece

any forum member who has recently any experience with bringing his car to Greece from the US please post any experiences.

I am more interested to see which systems of the car would be non functional, navigation for example, warranty coverage, proper software updates, catalytic converters service etc

TIA

The only people who drive with wheel on the wrong side are the Japanese and the Brits (and many of the ex British colonies including Hong Kong)

A Word of Caution

Both the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) advise that although a nonconforming car may be conditionally admitted, the modifications required to bring it into compliance may be so extensive and costly that it may be impractical and even impossible to achieve such compliance. Moreover, some vehicle models are prohibited from importation. It is highly recommended that these prohibitions and modifications be investigated before a vehicle is purchased for importation.

I would imagine that any sort of expected financial advantage would be nullified by import duties in Greece intended to protect the local pricing models there.

I notice that halB says that many of the other British ex-colonies also drive on the right-----does that mean that USA still drives on the right?

If not when did you decide to change?

1. Radio (FM frequency step is 200 khz in US 100 khz in Europe)
2. BMW Assist and real traffic info they do not work, because the
system is different in Europe.

The bad think about the two problems is BMW stupidity.

Other cars manufactures, like Mercedes or Audi for example, they permit to reprogram the car to adapt to the new country codes. BMW NOT.

Navigation works fine. You have to by (or find ) the European map DVD.

Any Greek living abroad upon returning to live in Greece permanently can bring with him all his stuff, furniture, electronics, car, boat etc, without paying any duties or other taxes, just the shipping costs off course.

A fully loaded 335i in the States is about 35K euros today when in Greece it costs about 75K euros. Need I say more ?

Tsopanakos thanks for the reply, I was looking at it and it seems that will not be able to listen to some radio stations in greece, do you think will be all of them ?

TIA

Odd frequencies works ( 93.1 Mhz, 93.3 Mhz etc )

Even No.

Depend in witch part of our Country You will be.

In Athens and other big cities you have plenty of stations.

Bear in mind, also, that the Navigation coverage is around 40% .

Unfortunately cars did not exist when USA became an independent state(s). So no room for confusion there. Later, when the Americans invented cars, they put the wheel on the correct side of the car. And the British just had to do the opposite
