iPhone 7 mount....

...to record my laps.

I track my car a few times a year, and I want to record a few laps. Is there a BMW CCA approved mount that allows for the recording of laps?

Thanks!

My experience is that each club decides what it will and won't accept in the way of mounts. The issue is if the mount comes loose, does the object fly around the cockpit or is it otherwise secured (e.g., with a tether).

I recommend asking the BMW club(s) you run with what their requirements are.

I’ve reached out to the tech person from the 2 chapters to which I belong (NCC & Tar Heel). No response yet.

Since everyone is volunteering their time, response times can be all over the map. You can likely get an accurate answer to your question from another member involved in running the events. I've found that registrars are often quick to reply. Instructors will almost certainly know what the requirement is.

It might not hurt to pick up some tethers, just in case. I got a few of these for my GoPro and Aim Solo when one of the BMW clubs began requiring something more than suction cups: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WM1WEPY/.

RAM mounts are pretty popular where I run. I've used their xgrip plate for phones and the diamond plate with AiM. The suction cups are fine, but can occasionally fall off if you haven't reattached them in a few weeks. A tether will never hurt, but might be overkill for just HPDE.

Camera mount

I use my iPhone for video with Track Addict. I'm sort of tempted to get a tow hook mount for camera and mount my iPhone since the camera position is perfect for getting a sense of speed. Phone would not be very secure but who cares if I get great video.
