Oil change intervals on M5

I have around 20k miles on my 18 M5. Every time the oil is changed iDrive shows <3000 miles to the next oil change. My other BMWs routinely show >10k miles til next change. Are the rest of you getting only ~3k miles between recommended changes?

Nope, I am at 7,000 km and another 14,000 km still to go before the next oil change.
Last changed the oil at 2,000km

I believe there are some driving based parameters that go into the interval so if you're driving aggressively it recommends a shorter oil change interval. With that said... 3,000 mile oil changes are aggressive.

I am not driving particularly aggressively. In fact, I sent one of the world’s three most conservative females 120 miles to the closest Bmw dealership to get it changed; she arrives back and the computer shows ~2900 miles estimated to next change.

Weather has been cold and there are some short drives; I wonder if this is factored in heavily?

I normally do oil changes every 5,000 miles on modded cars. Just did one last week, at about 5,500 miles, and my guy said the oil was in bad shape; we are moving to every 2,500 miles.

Curious as to how your guy determined that your oil was in "bad shape".

Pretty sure they can do an "oil analysis" to check for metal in it. Maybe there was a lot of metal in it.

I am well aware of oil analysis as it has been used in the automobile business for over half a century. I worked at an authorized BMW franchise from 1971 to 2001 and we offered laboratory oil analysis to our service customers.

If FloridaM5's oil was in "bad shape" due to a lot metal in the oil then FloridaM5 doesn't have a oil change interval problem but an engine problem.

I had my service done at 2000km and my 2nd oil change at 7500km yesterday as prompted by the car. I would think my rather short interval is due to the car being not driven for extended periods.
