Help - Error Code CC-ID 187 Steering Fault

Hi all

I'm a new member and new owner of a 2006 BMW 330i Touring. I have been really enjoying the car apart from the following fault:

A Steering Wheel warning light comes on intermittently when shutting down the engine. It is accompanied with the fault code CC-ID 187. When this happens the car is immobilised for around an hour. I have recently had the tracking set and previously had the steering lock light on but this is a fault that has occurred 3 times in the last month, over about 1000 miles. Does anyone know what the cause is and how it can be fixed?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like you have the good ole ELV lock mechanism in your steering column. I'd say you need to reset your CAS car access system.

Thanks for the response.

After doing a bit of research, I've bought an ELV Emulator. Is this likely to fix the problem?

Cheers

Yes it should if it doesn't you may need to find someone with Tool32 to reset it, but it should work

Thanks Mr Beam.

It already had an emulator fitted. I should have checked first really, but I've fitted the new one anyway. So, the problem was occurring with an emulator anyway. Looks like I need some software to reset the CAS then?

Anyone in the North West of England that could help?

Hello did you ever get this issue fixed? I have the exact same issue. Emulator installed and ELV counter reset with tool32. Still yellow steering wheel and no ignition..
Apparently a cas update removes elv but my CAS is ZB#9147224 which already seems to be an update from factory.
