Crossbars for E91 with low profile rails.
I just got my crossbars in today (part # 82712149541) and they do not seem to fit properly. Everything I can find points to these bars for the low profile rails. This can't be how it is supposed to fit on the rail is it?

That definitely does not look right - they should fit right down snug. There is a front and a rear bar, are you sure you have them the right way around? They have a front and a back too. Did you get the fancy torque sensing Allen wrench with them, assuming they are OEM BMW?
Unfortunately I am in FL for the winter and my BMW is in ME or I would take some pics for you of what they are supposed to look like, mine fit fine. They are OEM BMW bars.

Yes these are OEM. The part number is what I listed in the first post. I ordered these online but I called my local dealership to confirm which part number would fit my car and they gave me the same number. I can get them to "fit snug" as long as the clamp is all the way loosened but then the "hook" part of the clamp sits against the lower area on the rail and not in the groove. They are in the correct position as far as front and rear go and I measured according to the instruction manual. I can not figure it out as everything I've read, and heard (from online and BMW) says these are the bars I need.
I emailed BMW NA to inquire further but I expect it will be awhile before I hear anything. |

2011 model year, yes. Manufacture date is different, earlier.
The part number you have listed is for the earlier model 2007- late 2010. Oddly, can’t find the correct one for you... hmmm. Didn’t the X3/5 models also switch to the slimmer style bars? Maybe start your search there? There is typically a lot of parts sharing and even if that model doesn’t fit it may clue your dealership into realizing what actually out there. The wagons were slightly rare, especially at the end of the model run, which confuses things for dealers. |

Is there anyone with low profile rails that can confirm which part number their crossbars are?

This would have to be with the hidden fasteners like the coupe and sedan.
Open, do you have flip-up flaps on the inside of the rails? I really don’t see why they’d even have rails in that case, which makes me think this might not be the correct ones either. |

Mine definitely have the low profile rails that were a factory option. It does not have the sedan style flip up mounts.
F31 have 3aa as standard equipment. Maybe I should try the crossbars for them (part 82712350124) but then again I don't really want to order a new part that still doesn't fit. |

So BMW was of no help. BMW NA told me to go to my local dealership. Their parts and service department had no idea why they wouldn't fit and gave me the same part number I currently have.

Make sure they are the correct front and back. I just went and tested fitted my 2011 with low rails and they sat down flush on the rail. They have the same part number as you have.

There’s 3 options -
1. High rails (early cars) 2. Slim rails (later cars) 3. Without OP’s car is option 2. I have one E91 without rails and my other E91 has the high rails. I have crossbars and can grab the part number tomorrow to help narrow your search. Embed isn’t working on mobile but here’s my no rail with bars. https://www.e90post.com/forums/attac...1&d=1515016654 Also a a shot of my no rails (black car) and slim rails (white car) with a rack mounted. Maybe I just have a defective set of rails. I have had others take a look to see if there was anything I was missing and they simply do not fit. At this point I'm just going to return this set and go with the Thule Wingbar Evo.

That's my white E91 with slim rails and oem crossbars. Here's my part number. Doesn't appear to match yours exactly. Sounds like you got the high rail equivalent. Please post if you like the Thule's though. Good luck! Last edited by 11e91M; 12-18-2019 at 01:34 AM.. |

Quick shot of the wagon with the Thule Wingbar Evo. First impression is that they are very quiet compared to the OEM bars that I had on my E46 touring. I found the bars, foot packs, and fit kit separately so the cost was considerably less than buying straight from Thule.

Hope to have answered my own question. I went to the dealer yesterday, and confirmed a different part # for my car. Should have the bars in by the end of the week, and I'll report back.
