When i accelerate i can hear it roll back and then i stop suddenly I can hear it roll forward. I looked all over the compartments and its not in an obvious place.

it has been a steady issue for the e90 drivers and there are some quick touch ups you can do to get rid of it. you can search on the matter and find out more about it.

Any dead bodies in the trunk? ... Seriously though, sounds like something is loose. Check the glovebox. Check the center console. Check the floor boards. Check the trunk. Check between center console and driver's seat. That is a very tight area and when something falls in there, it is very tough to see or retrieve. I suppose it technically could be behind the dash, but should not be a problem there if you have not had it apart. Definitely sounds like something is loose and rolling around with the momentum of the vehicle.

Pursue that "under the seat" angle.

My new '85 GTI had a very similar sound back in the day. It was there for about a year until one day I had dropped something under the driver seat, and what do I find? A seat belt anchor bolt, an "extra" one, loose under the driver's seat. Voila, noise gone. Your symptoms sound very similar.
