There sure is a lot of E90 hate going around
I have been seeing a lot of threads about people having thier cars damaged by other's carelessness. I guess it's finally my turn.
My car usually sits in the parking garage until the weekend, but last Friday, I drove to work. I actually found a reasonable parking spot went on my way. I was only a few steps from my car when I realized I left something in the back seat. I returned to my car from the rear and saw a huge scrape on the left rear bumper. As it was only seconds since I closed my door, I knew this scrape must have been there before I parked the car and since I drive my car someone infrequently it could have happened at anytime in the past 5-6 days! All I know is that I have some blue paint residue on my bumper and a scrape all the way all the way to the plastic. Well, I had the insurance adjuster look at it this morning and got an estimate of about $900 to replace the rear bumper. At least everything went smoothly. After the inspection, I took the car to my dealer. I had no appointment, but they took the car immediately and got me set up with Enterprise (if this was a scheduled service appointment, they would have had a BMW loaner waiting for me). My insurance company is doing everything over the computer, so I was even able to pull up pictures of the damage from thier webpage (see below). For now I have a Volvo S40 until my car is done (they estimate about 2 days).

do you know how much the damage is going to cost the insurance co.? I just want to see what one of these common mishaps cost. My guess is about $1000.00

To answer a few of the earlier questions, I have a $500 deductible and the insurance is covering the rental car. I was upset about it at first, but after seeing some of the other posts here I realize that I have little to complain about.
So far, I have been treated very well by the insurance company and the dealer. Much better than prior experiences with auto damages. -My first car was totalled by a guy driving on a suspended license in someone elses car with no insurance when he ran a red light. They took him away in handcuffs. -My second car was totalled by a cab driver with really bad insurance, it took my insurance 2 years to finally get payment from the other company (and get my deductible back). -After these experiences, I leased my 3rd car and there was no major damage during my 36 month term.

Looks like someone hit you as they were pulling in to the spot next to you. From the picture the impact appears to be at the end of the bumper and then they dragged forward. This is a common parking lot accident that happens when people pull in to fast and think they have more room then they really have.
Check on the ground where you were parked for any pieces that may have come off the other car and look for a blue car with damage on the front passenger side bumper. My brother's car was hit right in front of my house and after finding pieces of chrome molding from the car that hit him, we matched them up to a car that was two houses away and had front end damage. If it happened where you live, it's probably someone that lives there and their car should not be to hard to find. Good luck. |

sorry to hear that, cnote. It sucks when someone damages your car and doesn't own up to it. It's good that the repair process is going smoothly. Just think about the many more happy miles behind the wheel.

I named the thread in reference to all of the recent E90's that have been rear ended, scratched, keyed, spit on, etc.
Its bad enough that most people have animosity towards BMW's in general, but every other day I see a post about someone's car being damaged (usually at the fault of someone else). As far as finding the person who damaged my car, my building has a little over 1000 parking spots, so I've pretty much given up on finding them.

i can totally relate Cnote as both my cars got badly hit recently. my E90 got $1800 worth of damage on it and my E36 $500. my dealership couldn't get me an appointment until 4/11 so i have to wait some more for my E90 to be fixed. i'll have to hold off on my E36 for now, that would just too much money to spend at once for something i didn't even do.
people are a$$holes!

With all these hit & runs that we've been seeing, I'm wondering how come no one has come up with an alarm system that integrates a camera system into it. Upon the alarm being activated (vibration) the small cameras mounted at all 4 directions of the car will take a few images. Perhaps even lets out an audible warning, and thus whoever that has just hit you will know he's been caught, and better leave a number on the windshield.

four top corners on the roof? integrate them into the roof?
I don't know. perhaps BMW should come out with factory camera alarm option.

Why not turn a disaster into an opportunity and pay a little extra for the //M Sport rear bumper. At least then you would be getting something for your trouble...

Well, front & rear are simple as they already have camera system for those area, side view should be fairly simple to integrate something into the B pillars. Of course, like all alarm system, they are meant for more deterrent purpose than to be actually useful. Once the car detects an impact, alarm sounds and voice (like those ones that says "you are too close to the vehicle") will say something to the effect of you've just collided with this vehicle and an image has been captured of you, please leave your contact info, blah blah blah. The other driver should be scared shitless enough to leave their info.
