Rain Sensor

Greetings,

Is the rain sensor part of the winshield or built into the rearview mirror?

Rock hit my windshield and I need it replaced. I would like to find out if I should get the windshield with the rain sensor built in.

Thank You

AFAIK, it's part of the rearview mirror.

Yes, it is against the windshield but part of the rearview mirror. There is nothing built into the front windshield that replacing such should damage if done properly.

i had my windshield replaced on my '01 330 and the sensor was part of th windshield connected by wire to the review mirror.

check with your dealer. unless they changed this on the e90 i am sure it is the same. also, insurance allowed me to get it done at the dealer since it was a non-standard type of replacement.

Both.
I don't have my car yet so I don't know for sure about the E90 but in my X5 there is something laminated in-between the glass that is part of the sensor. When I was having problems, the dealer replaced both the windshield and the sensor.

Again, this is how my X5 is but maybe BMW changed this in the E90 and now it's not part of the glass anymore but I doubt it.

Yes. You would need to windshield with the integrated sensor/rearview mirror mount. Make sure your insurance and glass place knows this. Good luck
