Anyone getting excessive rear brake wear
In the last month I've had my E92 to a driving school and an two open trackdays. Rear pads are gone! Fronts have probably 60% left on them. I'm running on Dunlop streets which have way more grip than the stockers. I'm pretty sure it's just the electronics on the car applying the brakes "thinking" it's going to spin out of control even when it still has plenty of grip. I've noticed alot of electronic interference in a couple of ways in this car compared to my old STi. I was wondering if anyone else has had this same problem. I'd really hate to pull an ABS fuse or something just to get rid of the stability control but I don't need to go through rear pads this quick.
1. No I'm not driving like a maniac 2. DTC is shutoff |

No news here. The computer for some reason likes to brake the rear thus causing excessive brake wear. No ones figured out how to give the computer a time out yet.

+1 on the newer models. Don't think it was an issue on the 2007.

Are you pushing and holding the DTC button? if you dont have the DSC inactive light then its still working. If you are, thats just the nature of this car. It will keep pushing the brakes in the rear to act like a limited slip diff.

Yeah it's that new lame electronic LSD.
With my 07, when I turn EVERYTHING off, everything is turned off. This is an issue with all of the 135 as well. |

I am getting faster rear pad wear than front pad wear as well. Nothing as ridiculous as you are describing though. I strongly suspect this is due to my car only having 200ftlb of torque |

So I guess I have two options. One, figure out which fuse to pull to stop the application of the brakes. My guess would be that it's going to be the ABS fuse and that's a bad idea, could cause many other expensive problems. Two, remove the rear swaybar to hopefully keep the inside rear tire on the ground better. This would require the purchase of a larger front swaybar to keep the roll down. Any other ideas?

OP, i would get the car checked for a brake problem. If DTC is using the rear brake as a pretend LSD the traction control light would blink. IF you aren't getting that light then something else is causing the wear

My rear pads are wearing faster too regardless of track use. Weird!

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I have the same issue. I don't track my cars or anything, just normal road use, but the rear brake pads wear significantly faster than the fronts. this has been the case with:
My current E92 335i - 6800miles so far, front brakes: 38000mls left rear brakes: 25000mls left My previous E90 325i - for the first 15000mls or so the same thing happened - took it to the dealer and they rebuilt the brake system (and charged me!) - when I sold it at 35000mls the front and rear pad use had seemed to even out Is this just the traction control working overtime? Surely the fronts should always take more of a beating than the rears as they do most of the work?

This happened to me as well, but after I wore down the rear pads during a 6 week stretch during which I went to the track once I figured there was really something wrong. Dealer ended up having to replace the DSC sensor (or some such part) -- according to them, the DSC was continuously engaging.

Interesting. 16K Km and 5 track days this year and I have pretty even wear and more than 60% left on MY2008 E92XI.

I'm in the same situation. About 7mm in the front, and down to 3mm in the back of pad (after a service inspection 2 wks ago).
Question: What DTC/DSC setting would you use if you install a Quaife LSD? Will it work at the default (nothing turned off), or will the car's electronic LSD interfere with it? I just want to know that if I chose NOT to turn it off in day-to-day driving, will I still get the benefit of the Quaife LSD on like freeway entrance ramps or something? Lastly, for track, do you hit the button once, or hold it down and turn it off completely?

You would get the benefit even with the electronics on. It's a mechanical diff. so it works regardless. As far as what I do for the track, I hold the button to turn off the traction control completely. If you just push it then your into DTC which lets you have a bit of fun but not enough.

Off completely. If you press it once (and DTC comes up) the car will cut power/brake a wheel to prevent wheelspin, and that could be very weird to the car's balance when you are in a corner

Like Nick said, unless you turn off traction control completely while on the track, the car will act very unpredictably when at the limits.
