Any MOT garage you trust will do.
I’d avoid BMW they’ll try and persuade you to change the brake pads even though they’re still about 6 inches thick

Garage List
In my opinion for MOT's you should take it to your small local garage (after you've obviously checked tyres, brakes and usual stuff yourself). I usually hang around for 30 minutes or so and watch while the MOT is carried out.

I've found that BMW search a lot harder for stuff and will tell you that it's failed on the flux capacitor and ejector seats but can sort it out for you for £££££££££!!!!!

Funny you should say that I took it to bmw last year for its mot and they failed it on the front brake pads and wanted daft money to change them even though it was serviced a month before the mot

If this is the first MOT after the car is 3 years old, then take it to BMW. I believe they will replace whatever is required to get it to pass. They do exclude regular service items, so brakes are not covered, but most other things are.

After this, take it to any MOT station you like. Try and find one that doesn't do any MOT repair work. They have no vested interest in failing the car, as they won't be repairing it.

Always take mine to the local garage. They charge £40 as opposed to £55 for the same test.
Would never take it to a dealer for MOT.

Take to the dealer for its first MOT as it is guaranteed to pass, as they will change anything that is needed free of charge. If it is not the first MOT then maybe an independent would be a better bet.

Some of you guys must have some pretty poor BMW dealers.

The only time I've used a garage close to home for a BMW MOT, I've needed the dealer to sort a failure. Was such a hassle and cost me too much additional time to sort. Running a warranty, or extended warranty, most items that can fail and 'cost' to sort, will be covered.

My servicing and MOT come at the same time, so I book it all in together, has worked in my favour, for simplicity, when at the dealer.

This year, my dealer flagged up I'd soon need new rear discs, (which was true), but no pressure to have them done at the garage.

Since I have extended warranty I took mine to the stealers for MOT yesterday with almost 40K done, the idrive has said front pads @ 3200 miles for the best part of a year and I was expecting them to try and push for pads to be replaced but no issues the car passed with no advisories or mention of the pads. I did visually check them before taking it in and there is still life left but will need changing within the next 10K.

Nonsense!
If you've ragged your tyres do you really think BMW will happy shell out for a new set of boots?

I took mine to the dealers yesterday for an MOT. No shenanigans, it just passed with no advisories.

I do like taking it to the dealers as you get a cup of tea, a place to work comfortably, and the receptionists are quite decorative too.
