How to bust a 5 year service plan

My 330d will be 5 years old in November and has done 50200 miles now - just 2 months before that 5 year anniversary.

I took it into the dealers for its final service plan service, which was agreed on the phone. When I got there it turns out that because I've crossed over the 50,000 miles, my service plan is over, finished, non-active, and bust. That was a shock and a nasty sting in the tail to what I thought was a good idea at the outset. There'd be a bill of £350 for the service.

Result, service cancelled and a booked sales meeting for a newer upgrade got off to a great start. They did offer me £12000 towards a 67 plate 340i, which looks very nice.

I'll mull it over, but I don't really want to part with my tourer just yet.

That sucks...when you say 12k towards what do you mean? They have knocked 12k off price or what?

They've a 340i for £22500 and will take off £12000 for mine.
I feel a bit of loyalty to the 330d though, and it's cheap to run.

Blimey they want to charge you £350 for a service & are now trying to stick you for £10.5K instead

Guess it depends on the spec of the replacement and if you want to change.

Do it! You won't regret! As long as you're not a permanent Lead Foot, economy on the 340i is surprisingly good!

That service plan is 5 years/50,000 miles, BMW won't pay the dealer so I get why they can't do it.

I'm in the same boat with my service plan but you should get 2 x oil/filer services 1 x inspection/oil/filters and a brake fluid change within the 50k limit.

I have a feeling that someone here took their car for a final service at a fraction below 50,000 miles to be told that the actual limit is 49,710 miles, which is 80,000km. From memory the dealer backed down on that.

That's a piss take though I'm sure it's advertised at 5/50,000 miles, I'd tell them where they can shove the KM.

Was it on less than 50k when you booked it? did you tell them it had a 50k service plan and was likely to exceed 50k by the time the booked date was reached?

Its a bit cut and dried to be so black and white about it...especially if there was a delay in getting in!

My 2012 car had 5yr 60k mile service plan. When it was due brake fluid change car had done just over 61k miles so I was expecting to have to pay for it.

When service advisor checked on Bmw’s system my service plan was shown as 100k kilometres which is just over 62k miles. Ended up not having to pay for it.

So at 10am I get screwed over for an up-front paid for service, over a mileage limit I didn't realise had to be so strictly kept under. At 10.30 they ask me to part with £25390 (less £12k) for a 67plate 340i.

You think I should go for it? After having had a few hours to think about it, it would need a spectacular deal before I'll give that dealership any further business, though I will probably stick with BMW.

The service shock needs me to stop and think. Not a bad thing.

I think the bigger piss take is they're only offering you 12k for your current car. I reckon that's £15k private sale all day long if it's in good condition and has a nice spec.

Go back with the mindset of 'I really want to keep my car' then do some haggling be ready to get up and walk away, you may be surprised at what you'll achieve. And, when you think the deal is good keep walking away, you may get a better deal, if not you can always take the deal that you thought was good, or not as the case may be.

Make sure you don't buy the deal and not the car. I did that once 4 weeks in I hated the car, or should I say barge!!

The £12k offer for my lovely tourer was a couple of thousand less than what I think the car's worth, but the service charge shocker was the main problem.

You see, I went there for reason A, to get my car serviced on my service plan. The chat with a salesman was given on the back of reason A.
Then for them to kick reason A into the long grass and still try to sell me a high value product was something not very likely to occur. This level of dissatisfaction may have long term effects as my loyalty to that dealership is over.

Did you make the booking by phone? Did you mention on the cal that the car was covered under a 50k servicing pack and it was coming to an end? Did they cause a delay before they could fit it in... ?

If yes to all of those, go back to them, tell them to listen to the call - you want your service! Kick up a fuss. Worst that can happen is they say no and you know to go elsewhere in future....

I've emailed the sales manager, so we'll see if they want to keep my business

dealer principle or head of business as they are now called it seems...

sales manager wont give a shit....he will be working on a punter who is not in such a bad place at the beginning as more likely to get a sale!

yep. put mine in before 50k sighting long trip due - even though service not due for another month 1k miles.

wait until 3yo then that quote should drop to around £230. if you provide your own oil then £150 - if just oil change.

not worth changing for that
