Opal merino leather
Hi
Looking for some advice, I have an f31 with opal white merino leather and it has started to 'peel' in a couple of places on the drivers seat and there is some general use scuff, it's not bad but just spoils the otherwise spotless interior (currently just over 10k miles, 2016 car). Has anybody else experienced this and if so have you found a suitable repair product? Or should I just go to a specialist trimmer? |

Unless you (or your regular passengers) are hugely overweight and that is likely to have caused the damage, I'd suggest going to the dealer you bought it from, requesting goodwill from them or BMWGB, on the grounds of 'not fit for purpose'.

Try another dealer perhaps? Got to be worth a shot?

If their initial view is 'No', you can always make noises about 'having done some research online, it appears to be be more common a problem than you'd expect', and 'is it fit for purpose if it only lasts 3 years on a very lightly used car' |

Thanks again, will give it a shot, unfortunately I'm not the original owner and the car was bought in the London area and I'm in the North so going back to the selling dealership isnt really an option but there are other dealers fairly local. Failing that I could just send some photos to BMW UK.

It’s fair wear and tear so not sure why you can expect it to be covered under warranty unfortunately.

I'd expect the leather to be virtually immaculate, and certainly not to be peeling. Yes, scuffs are to be expected, but not the rest of it. |

I had the side bolster replaced at the end of warranty check due to wear on the leather and that was at about 45k miles. Dealers seem to be pretty inconsistent about what they consider to be a warranty item, so I would suggest finding a better dealer. Wear after 10k miles is not normal.

like I've mentioned numerous times the BMW merino leather is utter shit, even farting would leave a stain. I have had replaced full drivers seat & passenger base thankfully I didn't need to supply Vaseline as the warranty picked up the bill. I now have seat covers on them as I don't trust the leather any more.

I suspect they will just say wear and tear, it's the drivers side bolster and seat squab, I don't rate myself as large (about 12 stone). Have tried autoglym leather cleaner and care cream but can't get the marks off so I reckon it's the pigment, if I try any harder cleaning im just likely to rub more off!

Unfortunately it's inevitable with Opal White. Merino leather is nicer but it's so prone to scratches/scuffs especially when paired with Opal White. It's an absolute uphill task maintaining them and I clean mine weekly!
