Recall notice

I just got a letter saying they need to replace either the turbo or the wastegate actuator. I'll give them a call and find out. Not sure if it affects all m35i or just certain build dates.

Haha looks like you came home 10 minutes earlier than me.. yeah I am curious as to what the issue is. Turbos do get hot.. As with the wastegate, but does this mean new parts.. Less power? I'm curious if someone can tell me what the fix is.

I was told they would explain it. If they change the turbo I’ll check boost after and raise hell if they detune it. I can’t imagine the actuator or the turbo coming out easy unless there is bottom access.

Honestly though, if they were going to detune us, they wouldn’t change components, just reflash the dme.

Too bad you couldn't hit that dyno before and after....then we would know for sure.

They will likely have to order parts anyway but if the actuator is prone to fail after being parked following spirited driving then doing full power runs probably isn’t a great plan either.

Hmm. I’m waiting for a production date. Sounds like there may be a wait.

Those who received the recalls, what are your build dates?

I just called in for my recall. They said the entire turbo is going to be changed and it should just have a new wastegate. Only 129 cars across north America in his database (lucky us). A good 8 hr job, so I'll get a loaner for a couple of days. I'll be bringing it in in a week and a half (so I can get a loaner). He said parts are readily available for the swap.

Edit: I also heard about a tie rod recall.. and he said the m35i's shouldn't apply to it, and mine does not flag for anything else.

Second edit: I just got the whole appointment reminder and they added in another programming recall: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1631041

Here's a thread that others have gotten. Reprogram DME that nobody has noticed a difference. The link has someone's letter that explains an O2 sensor shut down. Oh well I'll get it all done and probably have to recode something.. or at the least redo my shortcuts on my radio.

Yeah looking forward to the recode.

I was reading the b46 manual and the actuator requires calibration to set so I bet they are being lazy because it says the assembly is pre calibrated

I asked for a cool rental.. and he asked what is cool. My answer is: Anything manual, anything with gobs of power. He laughed and said nothing matches the description but he'll see what he can find.

They just called and said they have to order parts so I’m getting out of this thing today.

Maybe I’ll luck into a 540 next time

Even the guys at the dealership love the car. My service advisor was beaming about it and then the guy who pulled it around said he loved the exhaust. I think they had a little fun revving it in the service bay as the reset mpg from the flash was 10mpg.

I am so glad I didn’t buy into the whole x3 is better club, I liked nothing about it. The arm rests were too low, the seats too flat, the engine too lazy, no exhaust note at all. Considering the sticker was only 2k less than mine I feel like I did well.

Woah wait.. they need to order more parts? Then you need to bring it back again? I hope they order it all in one shot for me.. afterall, my appointment time is 2 weeks so they should be able to get it all.
