Lease Return Questions?
Returning my leased car this week. Due to a change in jobs, I will likely return the car with only 22k mileage used out of 36k available. The car body and interior are virtually mint, though there is some wheel rash and at service two weeks ago, 5 out of 16 tire treads measured yellow, with the remaining 9 being green.
I am hoping that the excessive excess mileage will cancel any potential lease-end charges. Thoughts?

They should send you a lease end kit including a "ding o meter". It'll give you an idea of what you could be liable for. As long as its in good shape and you have RFT's (if your car came with them) you should be good. You'll probably get a small rebate for your low low milage. And there will be a $378 lease end charge, unless you are renewing with a new car.

If you are under miles there will be a lease credit. I recall max credit is $200 or 300 based on actual mileage. It's a sliding scale.
Regarding tires, the bmwfs lease says tires must have minimum 3/32 on them. So, if you're under 3/32 at any measurement point then prepare to get dinged for the affected tires. Or, go find some used ones in better shape and put them on. Regarding the wheel, it all depends on the severity of the damage and the inspector.

I very strongly suggest you take advantage of the pre-turn-in inspection. If you get a clean bill of health, all is good. If not you can address the items on your own vs waiting for a bill from the dealer (for way more than you could have had the repairs done on your own) post turn in

You should of gone in for a pre-inspection and get everything straightened out. The mileage credit will be minimal .
There are allowances for each type of damage and after that you will be charged, including for not getting the service done. It is too late to be asking these questions now if the car is already going in this week.

Sad to say that I actually got screwed on my lease-end return, so I suggest you are vigilant with this process.
3 of my tires were cited as being under the acceptable tread limit, and my windshield had a blemish. Amounted to 1,500 in total (before sales tax). Dealer that helped with my new vehicle didn't make any mention of these potential charges, despite me originally going to the dealer based on a mailer I received that read "stop by for your lease-end inspection and next lease options". My advice for you is to not expect your dealer to make you aware of any of these charges, and you need to go-it-alone with respect to independently reviewing your potential vehicle lease-end charges. In my case, I could have easily replaced the tires for a fraction of the price, and used insurance for the glass. Now, I'm pigeon-holed into paying BMWNA more than 1,500. |

You have 45 days so whichever dealer you are using next, demand they do this inspection for you so you have no ugly surprises. |

OP here, Dealer did inspection, completed and signed off on it, and $0 owed. Happy camper.
Pays to have worked with a dealer through five leases.
