Painted Strut Tower Braces Black

This is my Dad's car. We are a bunch of wrench turning engineers so we are always looking under the hood. He couldn't stand the unfinished look of the strut tower braces so he had me paint them black.

Dad wanted a quick job so I just masked off and brushed on some satin black enamel. It came out perfect with no drips or brush marks. I thought about hi-temp paint but using an infrared thermometer they never got over 200 degrees so regular enamel paint will do just fine.

Good job....thinking they would need to be sprayed, but this works.

my engine was 199C based on a thermal image I took, struts weren't that hit but things don't exactly stay cool in the engine bay here in Texas.

let us know how it holds up. I suppose my V8 gets hotter than the I6 as well

note those images were taken on different days one while 'cold' (not driven for a few hours) the other right after a 20min drive

I'm planning to do the same thing as OP when mine is delivered, but I'll pull them out of the engine bay to spray I think. All 8 bolts seem very accessible, and this can't be more touch-and-go than removal of the CF Strut bar in my F80.

Doe anyone know the correct torque for each bolt? Will like to removed them for spray paint?

be careful pulling them because if they aren't tensioned correctly you might cause some problems

Appreciate the concern. One out at a time, with retorquing to factory spec should be a fine approach IMO.

I did think that taking out all 4 wouldn't be a problem, but I'll likely just do it on a weekend I don't need the SUV at all and take my time.

In the F80/F82/F87 the CF strut bar is one huge piece connecting basically at four points of contact from windshield corners to radiator mount corners. I've had it in/out of the engine bay multiple times now, and the car hasn't ever loosened up or felt any different.

I'd wager almost every mile on her so far has been more strenuous than 90% of the lifetime miles any of these G05s will see.
