The short answer is no, BMW does not directly support Android Auto.

We're iPhone users but I do find it very odd that BMW has decided not to support Android Auto. There are many more Android users in the world. If anyone has read an article about the actual reason for their decision, please post a link to the article.

But you need an Android phone to use the door-opening feature.

Exactly. I've always found that kind of funny. Word is that might eventually make its way over to the iPhone at some point.

Technically speaking, opening the door with a phone is not a unique feature of Android. Cell phones use NFC communications to open the doors. An iPhone can absolutely open a locked door if Apple decides to open up NFC security to allow it. So for now its in Apple's hands, not BMW's. Android Auto is a different issue altogether that BMW has at least for now decided not to support.

Found this...

This is also helpful if you do have an android phone to see what you can do with it.

The only thing in regards to my Android phone App that I would be missing is the remote start feature. If you are in a building or too far away, starting with your key alone is simply not cutting it.

The good news is that there is a way to remote start the vehicle through an Android App after all:

Simply use the Alexa Android App and start via voice-command..

I hadn't seen the Alexa trick for remote start. How does it work? I do not have Alexa on my S10+, but I will get it if this works.

It frustrates me that BMW Connected app does not have remote start in the Android app (at least for the S10), but it does for ios.

I don't know if it's required that you already own another Alexa-device but if you do, you simply download the Alexa App from the Google Playstore on your S10+ (I have this app on my S9+).

Since you already have the BMW App installed, you go to the "Skills"-section within the Alexa-App and enable the following skill:

https://www.amazon.com/BMW-Technolog.../dp/B01LWLCMGF

When setting up the skill, it will ask you for your BMW Connected app credentials so that the skill is tied to your account/vehicle.

Since I don't own a BMW yet, I can't tell for sure if this is going to work in regards to enabling remote start but I would at least give it a try. As of right now, this is the only workaround I can think of in regards to remote starting through an Android phone.

It could certainly be that the skill is limited to the features of the Android app itself but it's worth a try...
