TPM question

I just got my base M5 April 5th. I have a question about the Tire pressure monitor.

It keeps warning me that tire pressure is low even though all tires are at or above 32-33psi which is the recommended pressure on the door frame sticker and as listed in the owners manual. I have it set for the correct size rear 20 inch summer tires for travel <100mph. The iDrive displays recommends the pressure be 42 psi or higher!

Why? I can't seem to reset this. Any thoughts? See pictures.

I had the same problem. Tried changing different settings but the light kept coming up. When I dropped a car off for 1000 mile service, they fixed it.

Are you setting the pressures when the tyres are cold ?.

32-30 is the normal pressure that they warn you they are low. Pressure should be higher.

The recommendations now take heat into account. First thing in the morning here in WA at say 49F ambient, the car will suggest 36psi front and rear. As the temperature increases, it changes accordingly. I try to get it with 1 or 2 psi of the recommendation.

At 60F ambient (90F+ in the tire), it's suggesting 38psi front and 39psi rear.

Important note that just occurred to me: I have custom tires on standard Comp wheels and configured the car as such--I'm running Michelin Pilot SuperSports 295/30/20 rears and 285/35/20.

Yes, these are the cold tire pressures on my iDrive (32-33psi). Sounds like the consensus is the cold pressure in the tires should be set to the recommend iDrive pressures - I guess around 42 psi even though that seems pretty high to me (and higher than the door frame sticker and owners manual suggest).

After you adjust the tire pressures, confirm the tire settings and you'll want to allow the TPM to reset itself before the notification disappears.

This should be correct then. If you set them cold, then the heat and pressures should rise accordingly, and the TPM should be fine. Ive set my pressures to the quoted numbers on the door sticker, and they have been fine, no problems.

Came here for the same thing. Switched from my winters to my summers and the warning light won't go out. Keeps asking for 45psi. Door sticker and tires say 32.

Have you told it what tires you're running--there's a setting in the same screen you view the tire temp/pressure.

Yes. I might try the "other tire" option tomorrow.

Here's what mine is set to actually running different tires than what I've selected (I have MPSS 295R and 285F) but this was the closest.

PS: I love that your car is a typo. Hahahaha.

I just changed my idrive to "other tire" option which solved the problem.

Is anyone running the 100+ MPH pressures (44/46? or whatever)? How's the ride? My F13 M6 had higher pressures for 100+ but if I remember right the jump wasn't as big. While I"m not going 100+ all the time, I've been known to venture up there on occasion and I'm thinking it might be nice to have the added safety of the recommended higher pressures. Does it make normal DD driving overly firm as far as bump transmission?

Man, the recommendations seem to vary wildly from car to car. You can see the recommendations I'm getting in my earlier post and I'm set for >100mph. It only gets into the low 40s as the temperature really gets up there.

//EDIT: actually, I didn't post a pic of the recommendations. It starts at 37psi I believe in 50F ambient.
