Swapping Out the Summer Run-flats for All-seasons?

Hi everyone. My X2 currently has 225/40/R20 Pirelli PZeros. Great tire, but they are summer performance tires and I'd really prefer high performance all season tires, probably Michelin Pilot Sport AS 3+ (I'm in Northern Virginia). The closest size I can find is 235/40/R20. Any issues going up a size to 235s on the stock 20" rims?

Increasing width (225 to 235), keeping the same profile (40), means your total wheel diameter increases of about 1/3 inch.
I would be concern about tire rubbing either when turning or on bumps.

Thanks. Did some checking. Should be no issue with rubbing/turning, but the speedo will be off about 1%.

I would not call the OE tires a "great tire", but there aren't any alternative tires of the same size. The only choice other than the OE tires is to use a 235 width tire. The size you are proposing is taller than the OE size, so the speedometer will read lower. Why go for all seasons, when there are so many good summer tires? All season tires are a compromise.

Thanks for the feedback. I'd prefer an all-season tire because travel a lot to New England and really don't want the hassle of changing to winter tires during the winter. I'll keep the Pirellis on for now and see how they go. I just keep reading that you shouldn't drive on them below 40 degrees and you can damage them in sub-freezing weather because of the compound. Not sure how accurate that is though. I ran Summer's on my previous 3 Series and never had a real issue other than absolutely no traction in moderate snow, but I can always drive my wife's car if we're expecting snow.

I'm not so sure the OE tires will be damaged by the cold, but their traction decreases with the temperature. No doubt, they will be terrible with black ice or the slightest bit of snow or in your words, "absolutely no traction".

That said, all season tires are not winter tires either. They are not "all season", they are three season, spring, summer, fall. If you expect to be driving "a lot" to a location with real winter, do yourself a favour and get real winter tires for the winter and use summer tires for the summer. It costs more, but the result is better.
