DME Tune?

Has anyone ever had an experience with DME Tuning? They are claiming some pretty substantial power increases as well as the ability to remove the speed limiter and catless codes if putting in a downpipe. They also offer a "burble" option if desired. Looks like they offer a stage 1 & 2 tune.

Sounds interesting. What’s a “burble” option?

To my knowledge it is a what gives you the pops, bangs and burbles in the exhaust at idle rev or letting off the throttle. Awe tuning does it on their Mercedes Mercedes tunes

Not sure about them; the name itself is misleading. The DME is the electronics that control the engine. "Tuning" this, aka flashing it, has not been possible on the newer vehicles until recently (started with the F3x, now G3x I think), as the vehicle software is encrypted.

Their website says "OBD tunes allow customers to simply plug and upgrade their ECU. We will ship you our DME cable along with instructions."

So what exactly it is? A piggyback, or actually flashing the vehicle software via a self-contained OBD2 dongle? Does it have to stay plugged in all the time? The OBD2 port is alarmed by the factory, so you'd have to code the car or unplug it when you lock the car.

I wouldn't bite either way to be honest; the cost is $1299 and $1399. I'd rather pay the same amount and get the Dinan elite w/ a warranty, but that's just me.

I'm there with you. I'm getting a quote for the Dinan Elite V2 tomorrow. 600hp/650tq is plenty for a daily...

I have the DME stage 2 93 flash, don't have much to say over JB4 since its equally fast as before right now. We will be dialing it in and pushing more boost soon then things should get interesting.

Guys its simple remap. How it works ?

They send you a slave tool which does "virtual read" of DME (car ecu).
Simple compare of installed software and the one in their database. Then if match, it will proceed to flash DME (ecu).

Using their map, on all cars with same engine.

But not all cars are the same. If your car has beeb modded, better will.be to visit proper place to tune the car. Make sure all parameters are within tolerance

Like exhaust temp etc.

Here you are paying premium for the tool "device" itself. Not worth.

DME tuning has been around for years. They have worked in F80 and my F90. There tune makes a night and day difference. Not even comparable to the dinan tune.

Indeed remap is alwayes much more refined. (If done at right place).

However that is hefty price. ECU will be flashed anyway. So why not to take that to a garage on dyno and have your car done in right way for less. Sometimes cars can be pushed further.

Question, is it possible to swap the original DME of 2020 540i xDrive for a M340i xDrive DME?

I had them do my tune on my 2020. Runs awesome and has been trouble free.
