Cupholder Fix

I finally fixed my left side cup holder, the one that curves toward the driver. I previously read some fixes here about using a dremel to make a new hole, or bending the clip at the end of the coiled spring. I tried both of these and neither worked, in fact I broke the tip of the spring when I tried bending it.

I picked up a replacement cup holder at a salvage yard and it worked great for a week then broke in the exact same way. The tiny plastic ridges that are supposed to hold the end of the spring snapped off leaving nothing for the spring to hold.

I fixed it using a staple and bending it in the shape of a top hat, and it works perfectly. I considered using some epoxy to hold the ends of the staple in place however there's enough tension on it that it isn't going to move.

Very clever! Did you use an industrial type staple? I would think a standard paper type would not hold up very long.

Definitely didn't use a typical office paper staple. I used an Arrow 505 5/16" (8mm) staple.

Thanks for that. I've fixed my cupholder with the "bent tab" method as found on youtube. I don't use it often, but it's working. If and when it fails again, I'll break out the staples.

A small zip-tie works as well, maybe even a little better since it can't/won't bend. Fixed my cup holder about 5 months ago with the zip method and haven't had an issue yet.
