No Next-Gen 3-series wagon for the United States: BMW CCA

From BimmerLife:

No Next Gen 3-series Wagon for the US

Here's a snippet:

"Enthusiasts may object until the end of time—their complaints are valid as far as handling, performance, fuel economy, and a number of other important metrics and characteristics are concerned—but in the end, the car-buying public has its sights set solely on a crossover future."

Foolish for one to even consider the possibility of BMW offering an interesting performance wagon. No wagon, is more like it. Aside from a 2-series, BMW offers nothing remotely interesting for me, and I know, other enthusiasts. It's a stretch to remember that BMW once upon a time claimed the title of Ultimate Driving Machine.

So long, Munich. You used to build lust-worthy cars. Now, you're just old and boring. Soccer moms love your SAVs, because they look suave at the mall.

Can't wait for the new 'Vette!

Really?

The article is about the demise of the Touring in the US.

You reference sedans. Thanks for your cogent, yet irrelevant, reply.

As a E91 owner and long roof enthusiast this is sad to hear. Maybe one day Americans will come to their senses and embrace the wagon.

So does this make my E91 more valuable now? Hmmmmmm

What does that have to do with everything having to be a gigantic SUV? The X3 is just a worse version of the E91.

Also the F30 actually is kinda bad.

Count me as another E91 owner saying good bye to any future BMW purchases.

Mercedes, Volvo, and VW aren't afraid to bring good wagons to US, and even Porsche has the Sport Turismo. Now there is nothing to get me into a BMW showroom.

There's this one: https://electrek.co/2018/05/28/tesla...gon-remetzcar/

I know it's not by Tesla but it looks amazing.

I was aiming for an RWD wagon before I ended up with my current Jeep. Was considering the 3 and the Jaguar XF, but the 3 was about to get replaced (apparently not the wagon) and the lease on any XF Sportback I could find was north of $1000...

I am sure people will buy more wagons if manufacturers bring better offerings to the U.S. Europe gets all sorts of wagons.

Its a little to big for what I need .

That happened for me when they went the Audi way with a 4 cylinder squirrel engine in the front of these cars....

I agree, I don't get why North American's don't embrace the wagon. Almost all the practicality of an SUV but the performance of a Sedan. Look at the V60 - R design, it is amazing looking.

Oddly in my quest for the unicorn, I considered the X1 Sdrive28i (E84). I was impressed by its road prowess (even if it was quite a bit higher than an e91). I honestly didn't mind the steering, and was ready to order one with sport transmission. Ultimately I felt that the value was not there. It felt very cramped on the interior, and not very comfortable.

Then they went FWD. Ugh.

not a surprise in the least.

when I was at midohio last spring I asked the BMW rep when we'd get fun wagons in the US.
He laughed in my face.

so I guess I'm gonna be sticking with volvo in the future. Our XC70 has served us well, and I will be quite happy to pick up a 6 speed v60 after they depreciate out.

it's a sad day when volvo still offers a manual trans and BMW doesn't.

Buick still offers a wagon and BMW does not. BUICK!

BMW wants you to believe if you want a manual transmission wagon with enough size for the family you go and buy a MINI.

but on the other hand, we al talk about how we love wagons, but who here has gone and bought one?

enthusiasts love wagons.
enthusiasts also buy old cars cheap so we can mod them, and not take the raping financially the moment we drive off the lot.

we've done this to ourselves. If they sold, auto makers would sell them.
I imagine the opel that buick is selling won't be imported after this lifecycle.

I spent 4 months looking for the right wagon... that was 8+ years ago and +230k miles ago.

Took me almost a year to find a Montego Blue, RWD, 6spd E91 and that was in 2007/2008 and 162K miles ago. I have been searching for a replacement recently and drove a lot of cars, wagons and SUV's but nothing puts a smile on my daily drive like my E91. It is going to be difficult to replace it.

Very recently ran into a GM engineer who works on CTS-Vs and when I asked about their wagons, he said the same thing. "All these people ask about bringing back the wagon, but if they would've bought them to begin with, we'd still be making them. "

Then he drove off in an M5 Competition (part of his "research").

There are two station wagons equipped with manual transmissions in my driveway now, both purchased new.

Both needed to be ordered when I bought them.

BMW will sell a G20 touring including a diesel with a manual transmission. Just not in the US.

I have to admire BMW for managing to get enthusiasts to pay $10-$30K more for a car (M2-3-4-6) with a manual transmission!

Yes, if people purchased more station wagons and manual transmissions, manufacturers would be more inclined to sell them.

I imagined two lifecycle scenarios onwards and forever:

Guy loves cars. Wife doesn't care. Guy steers wife towards BMW wagon to lease. Lease returned for something new. I buy wagon. (sorry, sexist)

Either that or guy has x amount a month for a company car. Leases 6spd wagon. Returns wagon for new 6spd wagon. I buy wagon.
