Anyone know the exact purpose for this? It leads to one of the wires that plugs into my obd2 plug

Those are D can lines. That is how data is transferred to the car with your K+D can cable.

Here's the TIS Circuit Diagram for the OBD II Socket or Connector, X19527. Notice the White/Yellow wire coming from Pin #6, and the White/Blue wire from pin #14 (D_CAN_H & D_CAN_L, respectively):
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...x19527/vetg6Zt

Here is the Connector View with tiny numbers next to the pins. As installed, Pin #1 is at the Bottom of the Outboard column of pins, and Pin #16 is at the Top of the Inboard column of pins:
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...19527/CTJoYvuJ

After going thru the connectors you are holding, those wires should continue to the JBE per the wiring diagram. TIS wiring diagrams can answer a LOT of questions, and identify a LOT of alleged gremlins.
