I would send them back. That's not acceptable. My rotors came individually boxed. I just hope they don't make you pay for shipping them back. They're heavy and it will be expensive.

Good luck!

I'd contact them, every experience I've had with them has been great.

To be honest though, I think those are perfectly okay to use. If they offer you a partial refund or something I'd take it and use them. The scratching only seems to be on the mounting surface, and looks like it was caused from sand or something that got into the box.

If the zinc coating is off of the hat I would definitely looking to replace them. You'll most likely get ugly brakes (rust) if you don't.

FCP has great customer service. They will take care of this for you. I have had one experience where a struct was shipped in just the product box and it was almost split in half when I received. I let them know and they took care of it immediately.

That zinc coating will be gone in minutes on the braking surface and within months on the wheel mounting surface and everywhere else. You might as well keep them. If you want them to stay looking good, sand and prep the rotor hat and then paint with a quality spray of your choosing.

The coating won't come off the veins nor the hat. Just the braking surface.

Fritzer, apologies for the the damage here, often times rotors will be packaged from the manufacturer hat-on-top-of hat like this and will leave some scuffs which is normal. However, the damage or chips on the rotor surface is not acceptable and we can certainly have these swapped our for you for replacement components right away.

You said you have already emailed us in but you can also reach out to me directly at Mike@fcpeuro.com and I can see about getting new units sent your way and pick up these from you as soon as we can.

Just let us know, and we will take care of you!

Best,

Badly scratched on the face where the bolts screw in, and on one of them the zinc coating is completely chipped off in places.

Already sent FCP an e-mail, do you guys think that these are okay to use or should I try to have them send me a better packaged replacement?

Bullshit. It absolutely does. It even eventually comes off the Geomet coated rotors from ECS. I've gone through handfuls of coated rotors and they all eventually rust and I don't even live close to the North where roads are salted.

You can either get two piece rotors with aluminum hats or paint them.

Yup Zinc coating doesn't do shit up here in the Northeast. After one winter, the hubs are oxidized. I don't even waste my $$ on zinc coated rotors now; I usually get ones that are painted and they hold up pretty good through Massachusetts seasons.

Hmm ok I am unsure now.

Because my dad's daily driver has the lower quality coatings, the one that are in black I think it's called, or maybe they are just painted but I'm sure it's some kind of electro applied coating.

Anyways his have not rust at all and I am in Ottawa. I also got the same type of coating for my front discs and had to paint my rears since couldn't buy them with it.

I guess I'll see my self personally how it holds up, but my dad's are still great looking after a few years. I guess zinc coating isn't that good then.

I had in mind that zinc coatings were higher quality than the one in black

EDIT: The black coated ones are electrophoretic coated. That's the term I was looking for.

If you don't mind the surface imperfections, it'll probably be fine. The rotors were poorly packed, and each should have been in individual boxes. I would still let them know so that they can improve their quality control.

Last time I replaced rotors I got the cheaper ones with no coated hubs and within a month or two the hats were all covered with surface rust. I live in a dry climate but I think the issue is at night where we get condensation. It looks like crap so I wanted to get the coated rotors next time.

Are you saying they won't last either? Is there anything that will stay clean and rust free?

wow, thread for this? Just instal the rotors. What do you expect will happen when you mount a wheel on there? Or after few heat cyclces and season changes. Want something that will stay clean and rust free? Get carbon ceramic rotors with aluminum hat

They look fine and remember surface rust is nothing; it is nature's way of protecting the steel from further corrosion. What is more important is the steel quality. I always use some anti seize on the top hat of the rotor, it prevents excessive corrosion.

Honestly this has been the case for me and the pair of front coated rotors I have for a couple years now. The Hats do not rust at all. The stock rears look like shit.

You posted this before hearing from the vendor? How about giving them a little time to respond before trashing them?

You could always buy a high temp brake paint like G2 and paint the hub portion black. I have seen people do that in Michigan where we use Salt on the roads and the hubs hold up nicely against rust, over time.

Only thing is G2 paint is like $40.00. Once you mix the solution into the paint, you've got like 12 hours to use it, and then it turns hard as a rock. One can will cover 4 rotor hubs very easily.
