Salary of a BMW Salesperson...

Good Morning and Happy Monday!!! I hate Mondays because it means my E90 will packed away in a dark corner of my garage until at least friday.

I apologize if this thread comes off as nosey, and please, if you are at all uncomfortable, please do not respond to this thread.

I am an IT Consultant. And though I earn a nice living, it's clearly not what I want to do with the rest of my life. At some point, I want to do something that I have a passion for. One idead, to sell the cars that I love so much, would probably fit that bill.

So i'm curious. What can a "pretty good"(well above average, but maybe not the best) salesperson make in a given year. I live in the New York metro area, if that makes any difference.

I am curious as I don't really have any sense as to how much a good salesperson really can make. Also, How long do you think it takes Ramp up to that number? Is it even possible to start with selling BMW's or would a new salesperson have to start lower down the pike? Is it strcitly comission based?

Again. I don't want this to come off as nosey nor is meant to make anybody uncomfortable. If you want...I'll gladly tell you how much a good IT Consultant makes!!! LOL!!!

Thanks in advance.

I dont know about Bimmers but I sold Hondas when I was 17-19 and on an avg. made 50-70k a year....the hours were killing me though....

and I was very good -had Gold Level Sales....(but there are so many Honda dealers and everyone wants to pay below Invoive hard to make deals...)

-I would think that with BMW even the worst CA makes 40/50k a year....

With Honda you made 20% from profit on the front end and 10% from profit on the back end...the base pay was only $300 a week and you had a bonus every month if u met sales targets....

Hope this helps somewhat...and I would love to hear from BMW dealers/CA...

I'd say on the low end, they must make 50-60k. MY CA mentioned she makes 100K+, but then again, she pumps out a ton of cars/month and has great customers. On a side note, i am also a IT consultant and would not leave my day gig for being a salesman, unless it was something PT or a weekend thing.

....chiming in...finance guy told me that they enjoy special lease rates from BMW or dealership...that's a nice perk. Iirc corporate folks over at the VPC/VDCs, NJ and SC enjoy free company leases.

Depending on your skillset. I am a Network MGR/CCIE in NYC, and my hourly is $85/hr. This is on the low end for someone with my skillset, but I enjoy my current position. You can do the math from here on to calculate my yearly.

I do a lot of Business process stuff. You have me beat on the rate, I'm at 82/hour, about 45 hours per week.

Best part is I am 1099 and my e90 is paid for pre-tax.

It really depends on your skillset, # of years on the job and definetly, your skillset makes the biggest impact. We have contractors at my place making anywhere from $15/hr all the way to $120/hr.

I won't knock the guy doing desktop support, because that is where I also started. But then again, that was a loooong time ago.

I thought about being a CA for BMW also. I have great people skills, i can sell and market things. But its VERY competitive and its free for all. I dont know if i can handle the shadiness of people. When i bought my car i was originally working with the pre used certified cars (i wanted an 04 330ci), and when i switched over to new car sales, i found out the guy who was helping me in used got pissed off that i didnt ask him to help me with the new car sale. But i didnt know that they could cross over like that, my bad. But i think with school the hours would be hard.

Funny. I did the same exact thing. We started looking at the 04 325 and then wound up going for the 2006. I felt bad about the CPO guy wasting his time on me, so when I decided to get the 06, I made sure to apporach him and tell him first. He then introduced me to a New Car Sales guy and was very appreciative.

dude, that is not bad at all. do you guys work for a company that gives you contracts or you basically just freelance? i'd do something like that in a heartbeat if it paid this much. i graduated computer science and math though, so even though i know all the network/system admin shit, not even $85/hour would make me wanna do that stuff.

You are right VLAD. But realize two things...

1) I work in Manhattan, so factor in cost of living.
2) It's EXTREMELY boring.

I work through a company who pays me via 1099. I formed my own Corp.

do you also live in manhattan? i know it's crazy expensive to live there. like conan once said "they can offer you a place 6'x6' with a hole in the middle of it, ask $6,000 per month and you'd still take it"

also, if you only have boring job, than boring but high paying job doesn't sound that bad...

I do live in Manhattan. The payment on my parking space alone is almost equal to my payment on the E90.

Boring but high paying is great on Friday afternoon, but on Monday mornings it gets difficult to get out of bed.

Upwards of 50K, I'd rather work at a Porsche dealer though. Although, I plan on winning the lottery by the time I'm 25.

You're not so far from Woodcliff Lake (BMW NA headquarters). They have a number of IT positions available. Just a thought...
